    Hi Mendez,

You sound like your allowing too much fuel into the intake. I do not know if you have Injection or Carburator. If you have a carb, then adjust the fuel down. Since I do not know your carb, I cannot say where to look. If it is a needle valve screw, close it all the way and open it 1.5 turns.

1998 toyota corolla hard to start when hot

hot soak ,no starts 101:
which engine?, cant guess that. say it. please."name /size"
is it flooding or starving
hard to start , so that is easy you are parked, and makes diagnosis so easy, (no need to move)
you skipped the fuel filter:?
why not use a scan tool now.?
you crank for 5 seconds, see P03xx errors. DTC'
THE ECU REPORTS ALL CMP AND CKP SENSOR ERRORS!
bingo now you have your answer , finding this, scan tool free is hard hard work. am i to tell you that hard way, sure.
1:test spark on all cylinders ,same way 100 years, google it.
2: ok sparks good, i check all spark plug tips, for wet and dry or soaked in fuel.
3: i see dry, , i use test fuel (same way for 100 years,)
run on test fuel (my Model a ford, same way works.....)
4:; ah one plug is soaking , ah leaking injector
5:ah, all plugs wet, (too high fuel pressure, ECT stuck cold
if all are wet, I stop, there are lots of tests for this.(bulleted below)

  • fuel pressure (KEYON, cranking and running and W.O.T.)
  • injector leak down tests. all of em;'
  • injector balance test (ALL)
  • Fuelpump regulator 4 tests

all this perplexing, get your ASE mechanic in the loop.

Car want fire up

what engine ? what displacement?
USA? car?
it cranks robustly but will not start the engine.
the classic 100year test on gas engines is:
1: lost compression.
2:lost spark
3: lost fueling or flooded.
in that order. most folks skip #1 ,due to hope deal and no guage.

and then check spark got spark to all 6 or 8 spark plugs>
yes, good. some 94 have a distributor, is it loose>?
no, fix spark.
3: are spark plug tips dry, try test fuel , spray fuel.
3a: are spark pug tips soaking wet in fuel;?
yes, its flooded, (wideopen throttle, cranking) unfloods it.
keep in mind, flooding can happen on 1 cylinder only. MPI
or all.

watch scotty do his magic, (posted 100 times now... for no starts)

we did this in 1920 and same deal now. gas motors.

Fuel pump fuse is good. didn't drop the tank. did tune up day before . cap, rotor, plugs . drove 15 -20 miles then died. still sound like ignition switch?

ok slow down, it stalls, that is all we need, no need guess.
and tune up don, but you skipped the fuel filter? and air filter,?

STALLS 101.
1: lost 12vdc to EFI system. lost elect. power. easy to test , easy to see. you can attach a DMM set to 12v at the IGN output wire.
and see if it drops to zero as engine dies. sure can.

2: you could , check for spark at death, got spark
and work that path if spark fails.
3: lost fueling, (sparks soaked in fuel x 4? ) then its flooding
if dry spark tips x4 then lost fueling , so try test fuel.

you failed to say, is this a hard fail , i t dont run now.
or is always random... just a lil hint.
assuming power is hot at all EFI fuses.
then fails only 3 ways,
1: lost compression hot (if solid lifters, lash never set)
2: lost spark'
3: lost fuel or flooding.

if flooding use WOT, in this super secret mode works, Wide open throttle cranking, clears floods. (ecu cuts all fuel in this mode)

Causes stalling

seems like flooding
you remove spark plugs. see them soaked with fuel. flooding.
does car restart easy? never stated.
if you lose spark , the ECU cuts fueling, but not 100% of time.
so spark tests are first.
also make sure the EGR is not stuck open.
when the car starts to stall.
can the fast right foot , prevent it?
if yes, is it easy to do.or is it fighting you hard. or not possible.
now you have some ways and means.

Hard starts

Could be a leaking injector, or the fuel pressure regulator.
I would check each spark plug to see if one is fuel-soaked.

I have an 1999 grandam with the 2.4..number 2 is flooding the clynder...changed the injectors and i still have the same problem...

Is it flooding the cylinder? or is the spark plug not firing? Those engines are notorious for bad coils and/or coil control modules.

I have just bought a 2002 Daytona. The previous owner said it had just run out of fuel and wouldn't start although at the time it smelt as if it was flooded. Got it home and put in fuel but still wont...

remove spark plug and see if it is soaked after cranking, also look at the plug to see if it has been
burning clean , or all black covered with carbon, if it is black then change it . also check if it is
burning clean , should be white and looking normal, also look a the gapping , set to spec if closed
or open to much . while you have it out place back in plug wire and rest it up against head and
turn over a couple of times, looking for spark to jump from plug to head metal . if no spark try new
plug before installing . this maybe a simple fix. if this does not fix problem ? write back and i will
go to the next steps.

My aprilia 125 moped will not start, there is a spark at the plug, stinks of flooded fuel, it's soaking the plug when kicked over, what's problem?

Sounds like the engine is flooded with gas.Turn the fuel off if you can.Remove the spark plug and move the wire away from the spark plug hole. Now turn the engine over like your trying to start it.See if gas comes out spark plug hole if yes engine is flooded. If it is flood that bad your exhaust will have fuel in it also. You should get a new spark plug before trying to start it again. If gas does not come out the plug hole.Install the new plug and try starting it with the fuel off.Hope this helps.
