I believe there is a switch on a lot of manual trans cars on the floorboard. This ensures that the clutch pedal is all the way down before the starter is engaged.( I am taking a guess here)

SOURCE: door lock 2004 jetta wagen

If remote locks and unlocks driver door but does not unlock passenger doors, then follow the advice above:
Get in the car using the key to unlock the doors. From the passenger side lock and unlock your doors using the button on the passenger door. Get out and the remote should now unlock all the doors with 2 presses.
Worked perfectly for me after several other suggestions (and dealer) failed.

SOURCE: 97 VW Jetta automatic trans not shifting without lifting off gas

The tranny's are notorious for having "small" problems before they actually let go. However, there is a sensor on the transmission that tells it when to shift as well as a couple of air and cooling sensors. Try having those tested/changed and see if that helps. If not, you may be looking at a new transmission

SOURCE: 98 jetta wont start with a good battery and good starter

A common plroblem on the 2.0 engine cars is the distributer, try changing that, if that doesnt work their is a sensor in the block right behind the oil filter than can cause the no start issue, but its not as common

Hi, I have a starting problem, there is power, the battery is ok however when turning the key nothing happens, the fuel pump engages the lights work, not even a click on the starter.

Is this a manual transmission? I can't recall for sure, but I know my 1987 Cabriolet does not have a clutch safety switch, but the Jetta's might.

Can you jump the starter solenoid and get it to turn and run? It could be a bad or broken connection on the starter wires, or a bad solenoid, but id count on a connection issue. Or if its an automatic it may have a safety switch issue, try starting in nuetral if its an automatic.

Won't start

there is no sensor that controls the starter motor, i suspect the problem lies with the ignition switch, there will be a single thin wire going to the starter motor, this needs to have battery voltage at it when you crank the ignition switch if you do not have battery voltage there then check it as it comes out of the ignition switch, i hope this helps

A/c on a vw jetta not working 2001 gls

The a/c has a low pressure switch that keeps the compressor off if the refrigerant pressure is low. You need to get the system leak checked and refilled with refrigerant.

Cold temps starter will not turn over the engine

I had same problem with my 03 jetta. I replaced battery to better cca and it did nothing. Each shop I went to had no idea. My friend who is a car guy installed a push button start. He told me his audi did the same thing and that it worked on that car as well. He said something like in the cold something condenses and shrinks and it won't spark, I know nothing about cars, so I can find out exactly what he did if you want. I do know that it works great and the parts were like 15 bucks total.
