SOURCE: ultra classic 99 changed air filter to k/n do i

changing the air cleaner is like installing a stage 1 kit, if you have not replaced the exhaust but plan to, do it before you have the ECM redone.

SOURCE: 2002 Harley Ultra Classic backfires

Sounds like the previous owner didn't get the cpu remapped, Take it to a Harley dealer and have him check the exhaust mapping on the cpu, Shouldn't cost much or if you want get them to fully service it so that way you will know were your at with it and will have a reference point to start with or service and maintenance reasons (and re-sale value) Hope this helps

SOURCE: delphi or magnetti marelli fuel injection

If you look at the top of the Induction module, you'll see if it is either black ( single looking tube ) or Silver ( Looks like 2 tubes together ) Single tube is Delphi, Silver Dual tube is Magnetti .

SOURCE: How do I change the front and rear brakes on a

Not too hard - Undo the two bolts on the caliper and then seperate the caliper and pull the old ones out. Insert the new ones and put the bolts back in to hold the caliper back together and then install them back on the bike with the two retaining bolts. Use a bit of lock tight (Blue) on the threads. Warning do not let anyone apply pressure on the brakes while you have them off the bike or you will have a mess and/or a problem.

I have 1998 FLHTPI when i slow down at to stop engine light comes on and bike shuts off cold idle is fine when this happens rpms drop below 1000

It sounds as if the idle system is blocked or restricted. If the fueling is injection then you need to get the bike on a diagnostic machine and check the fuel map and the fueling sensors. If it is Carbs- then you need to clean the carbs, the idle jets are very small and block easily over time. I hope this helps. Or you could just keep the revs up along with the front wheel, and save rubber(he he)

Missing and back firing. I can pull the back spark plug wire and the motor still runs roughly but if I put it back on and pull the front wire the motor kills. One dead cylinder that comes and goes. Almost...

About the only thing you can do is install a new spark plug and wire or check the compression. If it's a fuel injection problem, you're probably going to have to take it to a shop that can check it for any fault codes and repair the system. The bikes built after about 2000 do not have much owner serviceable parts on them. They've gotten almost to the point where they're like the newer cars in that you can't do that much yourself anymore.

Starving for gas

According to what you posted your problem under, you bike is fuel injected. If so, you have a fuel pump in the fuel tank of your bike. If it's not running, the bike won't run at all. If it's pressure is low, this will cause the fuel starvation problem you have mentioned. But it could be something else. Since I don't know much about Harley's fuel injection system, I'd advise taking it to a qualified mechanic.

I always advise against "parts swapping" to find the problem with any computer controlled vehicle. This can get expensive and you can swap a lot of things out and still not find the problem. It may not be a problem with a part, it could simply be a setting that needs to be made.

I have to admit that I don't know a lot about the fuel control on the injection system on the Harley's of today. I very rarely say anything about them because I don't know that much about them. I've seen the guys at the shop run them up on the dynos and change stuff to make the fuel air mixture more conducive for a more drivable machine. But, I'm more of an "old school biker" with most of my experience on Panheads, Shovelheads, and carbureted Evolution engines. I know some mechanical stuff on the Twin Cams but not that much. I still advise taking your bike to a shop that can diagnose the fuel map on your bike.

Our 2003 ultra classic runs good while cool but as it gets hotter it starts missing

Sounds like it's running really rich. Does it smell like it's running rich? If so, you need to take it to a dealer if it's a fuel injected bike. If it's a carburated bike, check the air filter or enricher. Anything any further in the carb requires disassembly of the carburator.

2005 ultra classic efi. Back fire thru throtle body during cold start up. Engine light comes on for about 1 sec. After bike gets warmed up runs fine.

This is caused by a lean run. Did you change pipes or the air filter to a hight flow filter? If so you would need to have the bikes ECM flashed to richen the air fuel ratio or instal a unit to do this yourself. A power commander is somethink most of the riders I know use. If none of these apply to you then you will need to check the bike for an intke leak as this can also cause a lean running engine
