My f150 5.4 has a miss or sputter in the engine when the truck is in drive I replaced the fuel filter.

Go to the auto parts and get a container of Heat fuel treatment and get a new fuel filter also. Then pour in the proper amount of fuel treatment and change the fuel filter. This should fix your problem. Also when was the last time you changed the air filter. This would help it run better and increase your mileage.

i would suggest checking fuel pressure and fuel filter could have little dirt or something clogging fuel and engine light will stay on due to too rich or too lean of fuel/air mixture

If you have already replaced the fuel filter, the next thing to check is the fuel pressure. GM vortec engines require 60psi or more of fuel pressure to run.

CHECK FUEL pressure and take a fuel sample see if has water in it. since started problem rt after getting gas sounds lik you got some bad fuel

egr valve is bad

Based on your description, misses suggest replacement of the spark plugs. Sputters suggests a fuel problem and replacemnet of fuel filter. A good place to start.

And also, maybe fill the tank with a good grade/brand of fuel. Hope this helps.

If you have already done a tune-up changed the wires, plugs the only other thing i can think of would be the fuel pump. If you have a check engine light on along with the other lights your local advance auto parts would check this at no charge. That may give you a clear view of what is wrong. Hope this helps.

change plugs wires also .fill gas tank up put prestone or gum out fuel injector cleaner.drive car around several miles.give injector cleaner time to clean out injectors.wait until engine cool .change fuel filter.relief fuel pressure before changing fuel filter.
