Have a problem with gas gauge on a 2004 Chevy SSR

fuel gage sender unit-undefined-undefined-0.jpg You could use two resistors, Two different ohms specs for full and empty. Place resistor between proper wire colors in diagram. Turn on the key, If gage reacts properly to full and empty resistors, then I think the problem is the sending unit in gas tank. If not, the problem could be almost anywhere, wiring circuit--pcm--instrument cluster. I did see trouble codes relating to fuel gage sending unit. I hesitate to get into that? good luck

On my 98 ford escort i only could put half tank of gas on it . cant fill it does not have no leak what can i do?

Hi, It sounds to me as though your gas tank is:

1 Dented on the bottom, so the capacity is reduced. Replace Gas Tank, or visit the filling station twice as much.

2 Has a defective float on the "Float Switch" inside the tank itsel

I did the job once on my own car. I found a Brass Float on Ebay and purched it for a few dollar.
Note: Although this job can be done Do It Yourself style, I don't recommend it. It requires skill and stringent safety procedures. If you do it FIRST: Make sure the Gas Tank is Empty.

Hope this helps,
Happy New Year,
Mark

It shows full or empty

Sounds like you may have a problem with your fuel level sending unit for your gas gauge, this will be a more difficult task to perform if your the at home mechanic because if the sending unit needs to be replaced your gas tank has to come out of the car, this part is located inside your gas tank, a twin post garage lift would make this job alot more easier especially if you never performed a job like this before....

The gas gauge reads empty and gas light is on even when gas tank is full

this problem is caused by a defective gas tank sending unit for the gage and the low fuel light, replace the sending unit.

My fuel gauge stays on full all the time

Sounds like your float is stuck or needs replaced. This is located inside your gas tank. Must remove tank to replace!

When car idles gas gauge goes down to empty

Your code is PO462.  Isuzus made 99-01 with bad fuel level sensors as well as bad fuel pumps located inside your gas tank. You can just replace the sensor but i advice you to replace the whole "fuel pump assembly" to prevent another problem. At a shop this is a costly job they will charge 500$. But if you have faith you can do it your self..it is fairly easy to replace if you have a friend to help even better. but will need to erase the code before or after doing the job to prevent the same symptoms. Buy a "Fuel pump Assembly kit" with and  a gasket (around190$).Remember always  do a job carefully to prevent braking anything.  Raise your car, locate your gas tank unbolt the 4 bolts holding it, disconnect any sensors, there should be 2 other bolts holding the tank once down, you can see the assembly with hoses disconnect too. and pull the assembly out it715c7ea.jpgwill be tight, now  replace with new gasket and assembly kit press down firmly till it locks in. now connect everything the way you took out. Its actually easy...here is a pic of the whole assembly kit.....GOOD LUCK

Your fuel level sending unit is not working properly. The fuel pump and sending unit is one thing in the tank. It isn't too bad of a job to replace, it takes about 2 hours. Buy a manual for you car and it'll have step by step instructions on how to do it.
