I bought a 2000 Mustang GT with 12,000 original miles. It came from a collections and we use it for crusing once a month or so. Recently I was driving it and after I shifted into second gear, the engine just quit. The motor cranked over fine, but it woul not start. I had to towed to my car service center. This was on a Saturday and when they came in on Monday ot started right up and ran. They used it for a little while and it finally shut off like it did for me. They check the fuel and replaced the fule filter and it started up and it did not die again for them. I toook it home and we drove a couple of time that week and it was fine. One day I took it for 30 mile drive and when I fire it back up and shifted into second, it just died again. Back on the AAA flatbed to the garage and it would only spin over and not start. They came in the next day and it started right up for them. When they went to move it, it died, I beleive when he shifted into 2nd in the parking. The pushed it in the garage and it started up.chat rooms online say that the theft system could be malfunctioning and cut the motor out an another says there is a crash shift that might be cutting it out. It does seem to happen when you shift the car (Standard). I do not know if this means anything, but if the car sits for a month the batter needs to be charged. Seems like somehting is drawing down the battery. I restore and own race cars and I am fine until it comes to fuel injection. The owner of the service garage has been a friend for years, we are partners in race cars and I trust him and his guys. Currently it is running and they can not get it ot die again. I did read that if it is the theft system, I reade to cycle the key alarm system and it should restart. That might makes sense sit it has been locked and unlocked several times when it dies. Help!

I have a 2000 gt that sits for long periods of time and I have to keep it on a battery maintainer or it goes dead. It's caused by parasitic loads. (radio clock, alarm system etc.)
Sounds like a fuel delivery problem?
You may want to check the fuel system reset, it's located in the trunk on the drivers side behind the carpet. I've had to reset mine before because the car wouldn't start after a long period of storage.
If that dosen't solve the problem, you'll have to confirm you're getting fuel to the injectors, all you have to do is connect a pressure gauge to the schrader valve which is located on the front of the left fuel rail.
If you're not getting fuel it may be the electric fuel pump.

I did not get a vehicle scheduled maintenance guide with our used car, how often do we need to get the lube and oil and how often do we need to get tire rotation. we have a 2002 ford mustang.

Oil change every 3000 miles

air filter inspect every 3000 miles // less if you in the country
Change every 12,000 miles

There is nothing to lube on a modern day car!

Wheel bearing inspect every 12,000 miles.

Fuel filter 24,000 miles or less

Tire rotation is depending on are you a lead foot driver.
Keep tabs on the rear treads.
The rear wear faster on RWD car.
The idea is keep the wear even.

Shop around, some shop is offering free tire rotation with oil change!

I rotate my tires every 6000 miles.

2. Press and hold the

What service / maintainance is necessary or recomended for a 2000 Mustang GT with 125000 miles on it and has had no major maintainance done to it ?

Would be on safe side and go for full service if you have no/little service history. would be fair on a motor thats covered that amount of miles.
