Hi! The spring on the locking mechanism may be broken. You need to replace this spring. If you cannot find a spring for the locking mechanism then you can start putting on a similar one just as long that its powerful enough to hold the trigger on the latch. You may need pliers, spring, 12 or 14 closed / open wrench. Hope this helps and have a good one!

Hi! Where do I get a spring? What kind/size/etc? And, to get into the area to replace the spring, I need a little guidance-- do I undo the two star screws on the plate near the latch? Is there someplace I can see a picture of how this is all put together? Thanks! Gale
Hi Again, I need a little more info. Like: where do I get a spring, and what size? Is there any place I can see a diagram of this area? AND what kind of tool do I need to get into this area? Do I remove the star shaped thingies on the metal plate near the latch?
How do I get more info? I need to know if there's somewhere I can get a picture of this area? What tools do I need to get into the area? do I remove the star shaped thingies on the metal plate near the latch? What size spring do I need? Where would I get it-- hardware store? dealer? If dealer, what's the part number?? thanks. Gale
