What type eng????most likely the valve push rods and lifters need changed......they are probably hydraulic and have "collapsed" over the years...hydraulic valves cannot be adjusted as such but could be needing tightened-but not likely...this i an expesive job and you may want to consider cutting your losses....good luck and hope this helps

My 2001 xterra started making a weird sound between 20 and 35 mph. It sounds like there is a leak in some pressure system.

Common Car Noises and Their Likely Causes Noise More Details Likely Cause Fixing It Clicking noise while turning Starts faint, gradually becomes more noticeable until very loud Failed outer CV joint (constant velocity joint) due to torn boot (most likely) or old age Replace either the whole axle assembly (recommended) or the outer CV joint Water pump noises Difficult to diagnose because of water pump's location Noise usually caused by damage to the bearings in failed water pump Only cure is replacing it. If possible do it at the same time as a timing belt replacement to cut down on labor costs Squeak or squeal from an engine belt Loud, high-pitched squeak or squeal Belts either need adjustment or replacing If belts only squeak when damp, they probably just need adjustment. If they squeak constantly, they probably need to be replaced Exhaust heat shield noises Rattle that you hear when car is idling Damaged heat shield Replace heat shield

What happens when a fuel pump starts to go out?

You shouldn't have to pump the gas for a fuel injected vehicle to start. Where is the very loud noise coming from? If it's from the gas tank, then it very well could be the fuel pump beginning to fail. Sometimes you get no warning. You just get stranded. A mechanic would likely check your fuel pressure with a gauge.

Loud knocking noise after water pump fitted Peugeot 207 SW

you are have what is known as a dry tappet. last for 5-10 min on startup. now you can leave it or you can change the oil and filter. when changing oil I mean you use oil treatment first to remove the old oil deposits. then change the oil. the only other way is expensive removing the cam's that involve taking of the timing chain and other parts to remove the dry tappet and clean out the vaine. but usaly a good oil change will fix this problem..

2002 Saturn Vue V6 AWD sounds like an F1 car when i drive it. Very loud constant noise. Checked trans fluid and it was fine.

I have a 2002 saturn vue. Same thing..sounded like a jet engine ...loud humming as I accelerated . It got increasingly worse. It turned out to be the front wheel bearings. Replace them, now the noise is half as loud...have to do the rears also! 93,000 miles on it. Also, don't forget to replace the timing belt. It it goes too long and breaks, it will trash the engine...

Brought my audi a4 in to have the timing belt and water pump replaced and my car is now leaking power steering fluid and making loud noise, i was told when i took it back that the the powersteering fluid...

they may have loosened the power steering pump to take off the belt and not put it back right. They may have overtightened the belt which has worn the bearings out on the steering pump and made it start leaking from the bearings...

BAD ENGINE NOISE RIGHT AFTER REPLACING TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP

if poor performance was noticed right off the bat, the timing belt is not timed properly. this will cause lack of power, rough idle, pre ignition(little noisey), and rich exhaust.youre going to need to first, find a friend or someone whom you trust to do your automotive work.second youre going to need to start over by tearing it all down systematically and taking note of anything done wrong. third find reliable information on the timing marks for this vehicle. i hope for your sake nothing is broken. let me know how this turns out, ill be happy to help further if you need.

Knocking when started, noise disappears in higher gears.

try an oil change my brothers isuzu used to do that and he did an oil change resulting in a fix. If it gets worse you could have a piston shoot through the oil pan.
