Ignition trouble shoot

Hey Ron,
AN internal combustion engine requires three (3) things to run...assuming the internals are good.
1. Adequate compression >120PSI
2. A properly timed spark
3. A proper fuel/air ratio

Start with one, and eliminate one at a time(make sure it works) - ..(this is the way a professional would trouble shoot an engine).

Starts then shuts off

You should do fuel pressure testing , check for a good spark . Have a scan tool hooked up ,check for codes , look at engine sensor data parameters etc.... Look on youtube for diagnostic videos . engine dies etc... An check out basic electrical trouble shooting videos ,how to test fuel systems an ignition system testing . Find which system is causing trouble , then go to www.bbbind.com for free wiring diagrams . Then trouble shoot the problem .

1996 GMC Jimmy Need help trouble shooting. Turns over but won't

Fuel pump or injector assembly. Need to know what the fuel pressure is before throwing a part at it. By what you are saying I'm leaning tword the fuel pump. Make sure the wires at the top of the sending unit are not burn. There is a small 4 wire connector on the inside of the sending unit. If it's burnt you will need to replace both the pump and sending unit.

Number 18 trouble shooting code

18 = Cam Crank Problem
36 = Transaxle Shift Problem

Hope this helps. - Jarett

The transaxle shift problem I am unfamiliar with, but the cam crank problem is probably either your Camshaft Position sensor, or Crankshaft Position Sensor.
