1995 honda luxline 1500. Timing marks on crankpully and campully.On crankpully witch one do i use. on campully there is a stamp T/D. Tensioner bearing packed up and belt jumped teeth.

hi,

let me clarify the belt names for you before that, the fan or serpentine belt is the belt which all the accessories run on like the alternator and power steering pump and is different from the timing belt completely. the timing belt is hidden away and you cannot see it on most cars and keeps the camshaft in sequence with the crankshaft, Im not entirely sure but I believe ford V6s have a timing chain. heres the deal, the idler tensioner pulley has to have some tension put on it to bend it up and out of the way while you place the serpentine belt, study the ider tensioner pulley closely and the diagram under the hood, the idler pulley has a large bolt in the middle which you have to put a socket and wrench on .using force against the spring loaded pulley, either push down or up on the pulley with the wrench to temporarily give you the clearance needed to set the belt and gently release, (having a helper helps) once you doublecheck that the belt is PERFECT then start the car. My 83 LTD's idler pulley is adjusted with a bolt, I believed they have changed it to the spring loaded design that I spoke about above, if its the spring loaded design, that should do it,

Rotate the engine so that No. 1 cylinder is at TDC on the compression stroke. Check that the timing marks are aligned on the camshaft and crankshaft pulleys. An access plug is provided in the cam belt cover so that the camshaft timing can be checked without removal of the cover or any other parts. Set the crankshaft to TDC by aligning the timing mark on the crank pulley with the TDC mark on the belt cover. Look through the access hole in the belt cover to make sure that the timing mark on the cam drive sprocket is lined up with the pointer on the inner belt cover.

  1. Loosen the alternator retaining bolts and remove the drive belt from the pulleys. Remove the water pump pulley.
  2. Loosen and position the power steering pump mounting bracket and position it aside.
  3. Remove the four timing belt outer cover retaining bolts and remove the cover. Remove the crankshaft pulley and belt guide.
  4. Loosen the belt tensioner pulley assembly, then position a camshaft belt adjuster tool (T74P-6254-A or equivalent) on the tension spring rollpin and retract the belt tensioner away from the timing belt. Tighten the adjustment bolt to lock the tensioner in the retracted position.
  5. Remove the timing belt.

To install:
  1. Install the new belt over the crankshaft sprocket and then counterclockwise over the auxiliary and camshaft sprockets, making sure the lugs on the belt properly engage the sprocket teeth on the pulleys. Be careful not to rotate the pulleys when installing the belt.
  2. Release the timing belt tensioner pulley, allowing the tensioner to take up the belt slack. If the spring does not have enough tension to move the roller against the belt (belt hangs loose), it might be necessary to manually push the roller against the belt and tighten the bolt.

The spring cannot be used to set belt tension; a wrench must be used on the tensioner assembly.
  1. Rotate the crankshaft two complete turns by hand (in the normal direction of rotation) to remove the slack from the belt, then tighten the tensioner adjustment and pivot bolts to specifications. Refer to the necessary illustrations. Make sure the belt is seated properly on the pulleys and that the timing marks are still in alignment when No. 1 cylinder is again at TDC/compression.
  2. Install the crankshaft pulley and belt guide.
  3. Install the timing belt cover.
  4. Install the water pump pulley and fan blades. Install upper radiator hose if necessary. Refill the cooling system.
  5. Position the alternator and drive belts, then adjust and tighten it to specifications.
  6. Start the engine and check the ignition timing. Adjust the timing, if necessary.

the marks for th cams are on the tin stuff behind the gears study it for a bit and nyoull see them the mark for the crank pully is on the case onthe bottom of the crank pully just of to one side

How to time the timing belt

Before removing the timing belt bring the engine to the timing marks and if your engine is working ok,then use the marks by using some reflecting paint . Loose the timing tensioner and remove the belt. fitting the new belt and tensioner be careful on the installation the marks to be on the marks and fit it. release the tensioner and tight it. Turn the engine by hand twice and re check the timing marks.fit the covers crank pulley and mounting and start the engine.

How do you line up the timing gear in a 98 ford escort?

Hi.
Rotate the engine until the Timing mark on the Crankshaft pulley, is in line with the Timing mark on the Bottom casing.
Rotate the camshaft pulley until that Timing mark is in line with the Mark on the Camshaft bearing casting.
Install the timing Belt from the RH side, with no looseness in the Straight line tension, depress the Tensioner pulley, and feed the belt around the Water pump drive, and then the tensioner.
As you release the tension on the Tensioner pulley, ENSURE that neither of the Timing Pulleys MOVE.
Rotate the engine 2 times and check that the Timing marks at Top Dead Center are still ALIGNED.
If all is in good order, reinstall the Motor Mount and Belt covers and ancillaries.

To Install:
  1. Install balance shaft drive gear onto the left camshaft.
  2. Install the camshaft sprockets and new bolts finger tight.
  3. Using a vise, compress the timing chain tensioner plunger.
  4. Install a retaining clip on the tensioner to hold plunger IN during installation.

  5. If timing chain copper links are not visible, mark 2 links on one end and 1 link on the other end to be used as timing marks.
  6. Install right and left timing chain guides. Tighten bolts to 89 in-lbs (10 Nm).
  7. Rotate the left camshaft until the timing mark is at the 12 o'clock position.
  8. Rotate the right camshaft until the timing mark is at the 11 o'clock position.
  9. Position the crankshaft using the special tool. Then remove the tool.

  10. Install the crankshaft sprocket with flange facing forward.

  11. Position lower end of left (inner) timing chain on the crankshaft sprocket. Align the copper (or marked) chain link with the timing mark on the outer flange of the crankshaft pulley. NOTE: Upper half of timing chain must be below the tensioner arm dowel.
  12. Position the left timing chain on the camshaft sprocket. The timing mark on the camshaft sprocket must be aligned between the 2 copper (or marked) chain links.

  13. Place the left timing chain tensioner arm on the dowel pin and install the timing chain tensioner and bolts. Tighten bolts to 18 ft-lbs (25 Nm). NOTE: Lower half of timing chain must be above the tensioner arm dowel.

  14. Position lower end of right (outer) timing chain on the crankshaft sprocket. Align the copper (or marked) chain link with the timing mark on the outer flange of the crankshaft pulley.

  15. Position the right timing chain on the camshaft sprocket. The timing mark on the camshaft sprocket must be aligned between the 2 copper (or marked) chain links.
  16. Place the right timing chain tensioner arm on the dowel pin and install the timing chain tensioner and bolts. Tighten bolts to 18 ft-lbs (25 Nm).
  17. Remove the retaining clips from the right and left timing chain tensioners.
  18. Verify alignment of all timing marks.
  19. Install crankshaft sensor ring on crankshaft.
  20. Locate index mark on balance shaft and mark corresponding gear tooth with chalk.
  21. Position balance shaft on journals. NOTE: It may be helpful to use an inspection mirror to view the marks timing marks.
  22. Align the chalk mark on the balance shaft with the camshaft timing mark.

  23. Install the balance shaft bearing caps in their original locations. Follow the tightening sequence as shown in the illustration. Tighten bolts to 89 in-lbs (10 Nm).
  24. Tighten the camshaft phaser sprocket bolts in the correct sequence using 2 steps, as follows:
    • Step 1-30 ft-lbs (40 Nm)
    • Step 2-tighten an additional 90 degrees
  25. Position the crankshaft keyway in the 11 o'clock position.
  26. Lubricate and install all camshaft roller followers. WARNING
    Engine front cover replacement procedure must be completed within 4 minutes or entire procedure must be repeated. Failure to do so may result in future leaks

May i be able to change my timing belt on my 88 chrysler lebaron my self

You can but don't bite off more than you can chew!....The usual way to go about the job is to remove the front end belts...Alternator, steering pump and AC and then the cover for the timing belt....You'll need a puller to remove the crank shaft pully. Once that has been done set the engine on the timing marks provided for the job, Each of the pullies will have a mark and a corresponing pointer on the block or cylinder head....Locate those before you dismantle further....You should find them easily once the engine is on timing, usually at TDC and then loosen of the tensioner bearing so that it leaves the belt loose....the belt will then be able to be removed. Don't crimp or bend the new one and then make sure it goes on without being to difficult...If its tight maybe you haven't pushed the tensioner bearing far enough?....Make sure the timing marks match on all those of the marked pullies exactly....Half a tooth out is far too much!....Once you have everything matched, gently allow the tensioner to contact the belt and then check the marks again....Loosen the tensioner lock bolt half or three quarters of a turn and if you don't have a tension guage, have a friend turn the engine very slowly in the correct direction and allow the bearing to take up the correct tension while its being turned and then as its turning tighten the tensioner bearing lock bolt....If all marks still match, lock the tensioner and then rotate the engine by hand in the correct direction at least four times....If you come to any place where the rotation is inhibited stop at once. Never force rotation, as especialy with some vehicles you may damage valves and pistons....You'll find that the timing marks must be out of ailignment....Start the whole fitting procedure afresh....The only resistance should be the compression of the engine....Check the timing marks every second rotation of the engine....If all is well and the marks match exactly, Once your satisfied with all marks and the rotation and you've checked that every thing is tightened and locked properly, you can go ahead and re assemble in the reverse order to the one used during stripping....Its more difficult than it looks though and do you want that bigger chunk and are you that hungry?....Regards Johngee
