While coming home from work my trucks headlights went out and truck quit . Won't start. All dash lights work and inside light , just when you turn it over it just won't start. Gave me no warning when it quit. Any ideas???
Did the battery symbol light up on the dash before it quit? That happened to my 2000 2.2l S10 when I was driving and it was a bad alternator! I decided to rinse off the grime on my dirty engine and a week later, the alternator went out! Never wash an S10 engine!
Sounds as though the alternatyor has failed and is not charging the battery. If you puit a charger on thebattery for awile I expect the truck woill startt. Withthe enigine running, and the charger disconnected, measure the battery terminal voltage. It shoud be about 14.5V If it is 12V or less, the alternator is not working and should be replaced.
Sounds like a loose power connection or bad wiring in the engine compartment. Check battery cables and ground connections at both ends of wires and cables first. If the problem remains, test equipment and a wiring diagram would come in handy.
