My message center says engine overheating ac off than says turnoff engine
Bad thermostate....
Removing the timing chain cover to gain access to the water pump is a tedious job. Consider ruling out other causes such as a defechive coolant sensing unit which is relatively commom. Can you leave your hand on the radiator cap or is too hot?
If the engine is overheating, the most likely cause is a bad thermostat. It is located under the water intake housing at the top of the engine. The housing is held on by two bolts and is an easy and cheap fix. A new thermostat runs $9.23 to $12.90 at Rock Auto.

Try backflushing,if this doesn't solve the problem,..then it could be the distributor, they can make the car run hot if the are going out.

drain the coolant.remove belt by rotating belt tensioner cllockwise. water pump pulley will require a holding tool to keep it from turning while removing bolts. access to air ratchet can sometimes eliminate the need to hold but be careful cause thats a good way to skin some knuckles. also make installation more difficult to obtain proper torque. after pulley is off just a few water pupm mounting bolts remain. clean and dry gasket surface very well before reinstalling.

Try having your braking system checked, it may be a vacuum problem. I had the same problem and it was a vacuum problem...it's easy to fix.

I do not mean to be hurtful and it will take some time to do. Maybe all day if you have no experience. If you need instructions just maybe you should have some do it for you.
