2000 323i BMW MANUAL FIVE SPEED SHIFTS INTO GEAR ALL GEARS EASILY BUT GOES NO WHERE!!!

Sticks shifts, that I love. for 50 year driving.
and restoring cars.
22 years old and can be repaired
not sure me if gear shift is direct to box or crazy cable drive.?
sure cable snapped.
if it is really in gear,
the clutch blown up, disk now just rivets no friction face there.
or PP pressure plate collapse.

if the MC/slave fails the clutch locks up sold.
yours is opposite ,it slips or shifter is bad (actual)
seem this box has remove ( to rear far) shift linkage
one must be sure this link works and not pull the box only too find out the link is dead, for simple reasons. bad link.
it looks like and old vw bug shifter, (1968 mine) but in reverse.
and vastly shorted link

see this photo.

arrow left pin broke or all parts on the right. bad,
all these parts go to the internal shift rails and forks.

If I put it in 1st with the clutch pulled in, it will not roll freely, either the tire will slide ... The cluch is not dis engaging in my opinion. ... it (even with the clutch lever pulled in) the clutch won't disengage, and it will drag the tire or turn the motor over. ... can get notched, however - if your bike shifts into gear (with the clutch pulled in) ... bike not able to roll when in gear even while holding ...

I have a 1994 chevy s-10 pickup. Its a stick shift and it wouldnt let me shift gears. I can change gears when to truck is off but when i try to start it while its in gear it wont start. I dont even know...

Start by checking the Clutch. You can shift gears when the motor is off because there is nothing moving but when the engine is on you have to have the clutch to get things to meld right or you will damage your vehicle. if it's not the clutch assembly it's going to be the transmission. The neutral safety switch will keep it from starting if the truck is in gear and the clutch isn't engaging.

88 4wd subaru wagon manual trans will not engage gears....

not a clutch at this point but a faulty clutch master cylinder or faulty cable
replace the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder or the clutch cable
Indicates that if hydraulic the compensating port in the m/cyl is nor allowing oil to return to engage the clutch or if cable , the cable is shredding and locking in the outer case causing the same result

I'm just a girl. 99 suzuki esteem 1.8L wagon wont shift into 2nd. grinding type noise heard in first gear when accelerating from takeoff then wont shift into 2nd at all. no problem or noise noted when...

Did you check the oil level inside the gear box? Most people never service the car, so this part gets neglected. if it ran out of oil, you probaply broke it(a big repair bill).
Try putting oil(probably 90w gear oil;check a manual, internet to make sure;if you make a mistake dont worry any oil is better than NO oil).
Check the differential fluid level too;same thing will happen if you neglect doing this.

Gearbox or clutch problem

i guessed the rod that shifts the gear snapped. you said you can move the stick shift through all the gears without the use of the clutch. that is supposed to be impossible unless you are just holding the other end of the stick and the other end at the gear is not moving.

i am pretty sure you are for big bucks....

tnx 4 using fixya,

1988 suzuki samurai WONT MOVE

First thing just try to push or pull the 4x4 lever if you get it to move and it feels like it went into some gear try to drive the truck. If this works look on the shifter for the 4x4 and put it in 2 wheel drive (H2 is two wheel drive,H4 is 4x4 high, and L4 is 4x4 low range).Make sure you have the clutch depresed when you try to move the 4x4 lever. If you try this stuff with no fix try and look for clutch adjustment on the transmision you may need to adjust it or your clutch is bad.
