#915 of 1497 Transmission Problem by trucky Dec 11, 2005 (6:31 am) Sorry if this is a duplicate posting. I own a 1999 chevy silverado 1500 4x4. The other day I was driving approx. 55 mph and began to slow down to approx. 45 mph. When I went to accelerate back to 55, I felt a jerking in the truck. This has happened several times now but only when at higher speeds than like 45 mph. It feels like the truck is not downshifting out of overdrive when slowing down and then is jerking while trying to get back to speed. It feels like starting out in 3rd gear on a manual trans. Any suggestions on what the problem is. The truck has 104k miles on it and has never had a problem like this in the past. I have changed the trans fluid . Thanks
Since the transmission shifting and torque converter lock (cruise speeds) up are computer controlled you need to have a scanner hooked up that can read Transmission control module (TCM) fault codes. Also check for engine codes as this could be a misfire, but in that case the check engine light should be flashing while the engine is misfiring and set a fault code. If no codes of any kind are present in memory when the testing is done you almost certainly have a mechanical fault in the transmission like a malfunctioning torque converter clutch, but even that should set a fault code, so have the testing done.

Replace the speed sensor on the trans that will cause exactly what you describe is happening.
SOURCE: transmission vibrations to heavy shaking between 30-45 mph
tranmission mount is broke change it before it breaks your motor mounts.

you may have damaged the overdrive gear, a local transmission shop would be your best bet. for good troubleshoting and estimate.

Check your drive shaft u-joints..Number one cause.Have a great night!!!

I would start looking for a vacuum leak. Check all the vacuum lines for cracks or breakage. Spray penetrating fluid on them until you hear the engine start to stumble then focus the spray on that area until you are able to pinpoint the location of the leak. Best of luck,my friend, Dana
