Step 1:

Are you sure it's not the Torque converter. But if you think it is the solenoid.

Step 2:

Remove transmission pan and you will see it.Remove clip.Try to pull out.If it does not pull out, you will have to remove the valve body and then you can get it.

2005 ford explorer gear shift stuck in park

Check to see if your brake lights are working. If not, you have a blown fuse for the brake lights or a bad brake light switch on the brake pedal arm bracket.
When you turn the key to ON, a solenoid energizess and lock the sihft interlock. When you step on the brake to shift out of park, It de-energizes the relay so you can move the sift lever. You should hear a click noise with they key in ON position and you step on the brake pedal. TRy this witohout starting the engine & listen.
The bypass emergency procedure is in your owner manual under sift interlock in the index.
But, usually you turn the key to OFF (first click) and then step on the brake & shift out of park. Then start car in neutral and drive away.
It works because you did not energize the shift lock solenoid, by not turning key to ON.

report results and please rate, thanks.

Also, check the wire going to the brake switch under the dash. It may have just come off.

Is it not shifting into OD? It should shift from first to second, then second to third, and third into fourth which is od. I'm not quit sure which forward gear you are meaning.

How do i change the shift solenoid on a gmc envoy 4x4?

The sift solenoids are located on the valve body inside the transmission.
The transmission pan has to be removed to gain access the the valve body. Once the pan is removed the valve body is in plain sight.
Removal of the transmission filter will grant you a clearer view as well.
This is a 4L60E transmission, in the event you have not purchased the solenoids.

Transmissionproblems

no it won't hurt to drive it, but have the computer tested for trouble codes, u most likely have an electric sift solenoid in the trans that has failed.
