If you have a local public library like I do in Austin Texas you can find the chilton's books there. I also am having trouble with my 98 windstars cruise control

Go get the repair manual (Chilton's or Haynes for example) for your vehicle - about $20 - at your local auto parts store and it WILL answer a lot of your questions. Next, call the dealership, speak to the parts department, and they'll tell you or ask your mechanic. They'll know if your repair manual doesn't.

Where would I find the fuse for the cruise control in a 2001 ford escape

Not certain if this will help. The 1st supplied diagram lists the fuse in the box within the passenger cabin. As you can see, none are listed for a cruise control module. The 2nd supplied from automotorpad.com in the Ford Cruise Control Module #4 diagram, has an arrow pointed to a Fuse Holder but I see no identifier on the page for the year of the vehicle. Then there is an unsettling article from ItStillRuns. https://fuse-box.info/ford/ford-escape-2001-2004-fuses-and-relay

Where is the fuse for cruise control in 2012 ford escape

There isn't one. The cruise control is a module/computer which is controlled by the ECM. This one has to go on a scanner to see what's wrong. Code readers don't read the cruise.

The airbag light stays on and the cruise control does not work

The air bag light has to do with the air bag sensors in the bumper being bad, or the air bag module being bad.

The cruise control not working has to do with a broken cable from the cruise control mechanism, or a blown fuse for cruise control, or the cruise control being turned off.

Cruise control

Here's the situation, there was a factory recall on the cruise control module for Explorers and Expeditions during recent years and your vehicle may be included. This is very important because in some vehicles this faulty cruise control module sparked and caught on fire. Here's what you do, call the Ford dealer in your area(service) with the vin number to your vehicle, they will tell you if your vehicle was under this factory recall and if it is they will replace it for free. I would be very careful as you may have one of these faulty modules. Hope this helped.
