1997 cruise control only works part time and will turn off

Definitely sounds like a bad vaccum hose. Replace i and i bet that solves the problem

Check brake pedal plug under dash because that is one switch to turn off cruise.Also if your cruise every hunts for a speed meaning up and down speed you may have a vacuum leak under hood.

It could be that the brake light switch is adjusted too close to the top. Set the switch where the pedal has to move 3/8 to 1/2 inch before the lamps come on. If this is it, it's an easy fix...

If I don't turn my cruise control on within about 5 minutes of starting the truck it won't come on. Sometimes when I have it on it turns itself off and the only way to get it to come back on is to stop...
find the line to the cruise control and block it off amd the cruise control unit//put tapr over it..you night get a service engine soon but if if runs who cares! your getting closer to the problem! tty it and see if it works now..it could be a bad hose or or cruise control unit...blocking off the tube would sugest to me that is a bad cruise control and the computer senses a bad input probably from a leaking hose, try that and get back to me im curious,,and if it fixes it can i get a rating ..Thanks.

Try pulling up the brake pedal with your foot,Sometimes your brake doesnt come back all the way,and the brake switch keeps the cruise from working.Also,check the fuse.If those answers dont help,It could be the swith itself is bad.Those can be bought at a parts store.

Cruise control wont work
normally the brake switch is the issue with these trucks. it is located under the dash where the brake pedal meets the linkage to the brake booster.

Electric windows, air control and cruise
Check the fuses first.  If it's not that, check the switches.  If it's not the switches, then it will probably be the wiring, most likely a short somewhere.
