Most car oil capacity is 4 quarts tops after around 1979 or so. Can't remember the exact year they went from 5 quarts to 4 quarts. Check the car manual for this. :-)

As for the sludge question, I add Marvel Mystery Oil around 600 miles before i do my oil change. This will clean out the oil pick up screen and oil journals through out the engine, I do this on every oil change and i have over 356,000 miles on my engine. Oil and filter changed every 3,000 miles intervals. Good luck and hope this helps.

Including filter; the oil capacity for a 2WD, 2000, Nissan, Frontier, 4cyl (Ka24de) is 3-3/4 quarts. Straight out of the Haynes manual.

2.2 liter engine - 2.4 liter engine 5W30
Capacity with oil filter changed 3.8 liters.

If you have the 4.7 liter  V8 with the engine code (N) 5W-30 If you have the 2.5 liter, 3.9 liter, 5.9 liter 10W30 but 5W-30 can be used under cold climate condition. (Alaska)
