i want to remove a radio from my 1500 chevrolet pickup

I have the same problem. After shifting it sound like the vehicle is in 4x4, but nothing is engaged. My mechanic told me I need a new "four wheel drive actuator". It costs under $100.00 at AutoZone.

Sounds like the front axle electric actuator is bad. these are mounted on the front differential housing. they are known to go bad.

I had the same problem with mine, your mechanic could be wrong. In order to engage the front hubs it requires a vaccum, there should be a vaccum diaphram underneath a bunch of stuff in the front left engine compartment. Left being your left if you're looking at your engine and front being the front of the vehicle. Look for that diaphram and check the hose from it and all the way back to your transfer case. Those hoses will sometimes get dry, cracked or rotted out. All i did was go get a reel of vaccum hose and some plastic connectors and it only costed me about 10 bucks. Good Luck

What causes rear wheels not to engage whether in 2 or 4 whhel drive? Front ones only turn when in 4x4.

If the shaft is powering out to rear end then internal on rear possibly broken differential. If no power from case to rear then broken in case.

Changed to 4wheel drive low and I can't get it to change back to 2 wheel drive.

1999 Blazer. Thing's to check. 4x4 problem. There's an actuator pump under your battery plate. Make sure its in good shape and its working proper. Next check the cable that runs from the pump to the front transfer case. Then check the actuator switch on the front transfer case. Then check the vacuum lines from the front transfer case to the rear transfer case, that should be right under the drivers side door. There's also a actuator switch on the rear transfer case witch two vacuum lines run out of. Check them also, and last check your fluid level in your transfer case. Start from the beginning to the end. Don't forget to use your 4x4 every know and then to keep it up to power. Its not like the good old days. Where a pull of the lever on the floor engaged the 4x4. I hope this helps.

4 wheel drive hi wont work but 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive lo will in my 03 blazer

first you need to figure out if 4 wheel drive in 4 low is working. i know you said it is but do the front tires actually pull... if it is than you have a transfer case issue... if it does not than you probably have a vacum issue with the front hubs

My 1999 Blazer 4X4 will not go into 4 wheel drive.

The cv shafts will turn in 2wd but the front driveshaft should not. Can you jack up all 4 wheels to test this?

1991 S10 blazer 4x4 4.3 popping coming from the front

the popping sound is the stabilizer links or the lower control arm bushings you can replace all bushings and both link kits for around 50.00 and the light is prob from the sensor on the transfer case or the front end i would remove and clean with dawn dishwashing liquid and put them back.
