Intermittent check engine light, runs rough

1991 Accord. Sometimes starts hard and engine light comes on, then I shut off engine and immediately re-start and it runs fine, engine light off. I have replaced igniter and coil to no effect. Can anyone help?

I used a jumper wire to try get the code from the ECU's plug under the passenger side kick panel. There were no codes at all, the engine light didn't come on at all, let alone blink.

Update....I just jumped the ECU's plug again and this time came up with 8 quick flashes, one long flash, and 5 quick flashes. Any help?

Thank you. Is it possible that the one long flash followed by the 5 quick flashes signals a code 15, and if so what would that be? Of the codes 8 and 5, is replacement indicated? The problem occurs perhaps on perhaps 1 in 10 starts. Thanks again.

You have 2 codes, 8 and 5, code 8 is the TDC sensor, this would cause a no start, the code 5 is for the MAP sensor, it may be disconnected or defective.

The long flash is the seperator code, so no I stand by the two seperate codes 5 & 8

1991 honda accord - runs rough and stalls on start up.

Did you set the ignition timing after you installed the dist.? If yes, I'd say you got a bad distributor(the one you just put in) since all the codes you're getting are directly for sensors located within the distributor.

The codes you are giving are not complete... if you used an obdII you should have letters along with code.. check full fault code and go from there..
