2005 Chevrolet Malibu Logo

I was driving my Malibu the other day and the dash said "engine power reduced" and then a few seconds later "engine disabled". so i had to pull over. I was able to start it up after about a minute and then it did it again 5 minutes later. I am able to start it up again every time it happens but it still happens every 5 to 10 minutes.

Hello! There are multiple Technical Service Bulletins (TSB'S) issued by General Motors which address this issue...When you get the message "Engine Disabled" the Check Engine Light will come on...This means the computer has a trouble code stored...An example of a code would be; P1516 or P2135...etc...If you can get to an auto parts store they will read the code/codes for free...Once you have that information I can offer a solution...A defective sensor which the code will point to is usually the reason the engine is disabled...Send a comment with code information...Guru...Saailer

Malibu hybird 2008 /service traction /engine power reduced

Your best bet would be to take it to a qualified repair shop. Special tool's and knowledge are needed . Scan tools , electrical diagnostic , service information . Your vehicle has a bunch of computers (control modules) C.A.N. cantroller area network serial data communication networks . Hi speed , med. speed , low speed . The power steering is electronic ,computer controlled , sensors on the steering shaft .With those light's lit , DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes are stored etc... Plus there is a real chance of being electrocuted. High voltage !

Check engine light came on then reduce engine power

When this light comes on it means the computer control module has detected a fault in the system, it has reduced power to avoid any damage to the engine or transmission. You must now have the computer scanned for fault codes, this is done through the diagnostic connector under the dash see photo below.

My 2005 Malibu is displaying reduced engine power on the dash I had auto zone to test it gave a code of throttle body actuator is this the same as throttle body housing

Pretty much, the throttle body actuator is the small motor that opens and shuts the throttle blade and is serviced in the housing assembly.

What causes the "Reduced Engine Power", "Service Stability Control" and "Traction Control" warning lights to come on?

the "Reduced Engine Power", problem causes the PCM to disable "Service Stability Control" and "Traction Control" turning on the warning lights to come on for those systems . The reduced engine power is because of a problem with the electronic throttle control system or as GM calls it TAC system . Reduced Engine Power Mode
When the PCM detects a condition with the TAC system, the PCM may enter a reduced engine power mode. Reduced engine power may cause one or more of the following conditions:
• Acceleration limiting--The PCM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control, however, the vehicle acceleration is limited.
• Limited throttle mode--The PCM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control, however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.
• Throttle default mode--The PCM will turn OFF the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.
• Forced idle mode--The PCM will perform the following actions:
- Limit engine speed to idle by positioning the TP, or by controlling the fuel and spark if the throttle is turned OFF.
- Ignore the accelerator pedal input.
• Engine shutdown mode--The PCM will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.

2009 crv check fuel cap

Go to the parts store where you bought the cap. Sometimes the code clears on it's own and sometimes you need to have it reset. If this is not an option disconnect the negative battery cable for a minute. Just as a warning, if you disconnect the battery you will have to reprogram most all of your electronics.

We just got our 2011 chevy malibu about 4 days ago. We drove it off the lot with no problems. A few days later we jump in the car and turn on the ignition the power steering light is on and the car will...

Hi!!
You should take the vehicle back to the dealer ASAP, messing with the vehicle will void factory warranty. It should be no charge for the repair.
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.
