Hello. My name is Mike,

Let me see if I can help you. When starting a car and you hear a click every time your try to start it, most the times it is only a couple issues to cause this. Number one and most common is the connection (wire) from the battery to the starter / solenoid is not getting a good connection which means, when you turn the key it is breaking the 12 volt circuit to trigger the solenoid which then triggers the starter to start the motor. Now, sense you say you have a good battery and you can start the car with jumping it, this tells me, it most likely is not the starter. In process of elimination there is only two things left where this problem lies.

Number one: Make sure the cable-wire (ground and positive) that goes from your battery down to your starter is clean and the connections on both ends are tight.

Number two: The second and only other place that normally would cause this based on your symptoms and the fact you can jump it, is the solenoid is not working correctly that is part of the starter. Most cases if this is the case, you would have to replace the starter.

I hope this helped you, and if you can rate my free advice accordingly, Thanks Mike from Fixya

Bad ground to the engine or Selinoid/starter is a very good possibility. Make sure the battery connections are good as well.

Why won't my car start? What is making the clicking noises coming from the engine compartment?

soleniod on the starter motor is the most likely source of the clicking noise. The starter motor may be faulty and not cranking over the motor.

Clicking sound but engine won't start

This actually does sound like the battery is low on charge. A battery which is quite low on charge will still light the headlights and run many other electrical accessories, but will not engage the starter (which requires much more power than other accessories).
I would start by making sure that an electrical device, such as interior lights, glove box lights, trunk light or something else has not been left on. Then carefully jump start the engine. It is also possible that the battery might need to be replaced for not holding a charge.

06 pontiac grand prix wont start no clicking when you turn the key over even jump starting the battery, has dash lights & radio & parking lights. battery tested good. put a used starter & altinator on

Used parts such as starters and altinators don't last. It might **** but it sounds like you need to buy a new starter, altinator, and battery. Or just start with buying one at a time.

My interior lights turn on everything works its just my engine wont turn over it sounds like a clicking noise

Battery is weak or bad. The clicking noise is the starter solenoid and is a result of...not enough power in the battery.

When i turn the key to the on position it makes a clicking sound is than the starter and the head light will not come on

Sounds like a dead battery. Do your interior lights come on? Does your horn work? I have a 2000 Intrepid and changing the battery was a real pain in the ****.

I had a problem with my starter solenoid my truck was not starting. i have a 1996 ford ranger i bought a new one the truck started a few times and then it stopped. what is my problem.

You should have your battery tested & make sure that the terminals are cleaned & well protected wth grease once charged fully. Since you crossed/jumped the solenoid & didn't get it to start until jumping the battery (providing extra voltage), that rules out the solenoid and the ignition switch. Sometimes a battery will test full without a load but will not provide the voltage to the solenoid to actually complete the circuit, thus the clicking sound. If the battery is strong, and the starter bad, the solenoid will click solidly once, passing full voltage to the starter that will either turn, hum, or do nothing. good luck
