How do I fix my blades on my shredder?
Try running a layer of aluminum foil between two sheets of paper. See if it shredds, If it does, do it a couple of times, then use shredder oil. It might help to both sharpen the blades, and to keep them sharp longer. It works on cutting blades for scrapbooking cutters and scissors...
Does sewing machine oil work as well as shredder oil?
do not use oil in a shredder
the paper becomes contaminated and will not cut
besides that all the oil will be moved by the first sheet of paper shredded
if the paper is not being cut properly get new blades or a new shredder
The shredder won't start and stop automatically. I need to turn it on and off each time I use it.
Most shredders have a small sensor on the top that keep it from running when there is something near the top, like fingers, to prevent injury. It is possible that over time, dust or small bits of paper are covering this, keeping it from operating properly. Unplug the shredder then wipe down the top with a slightly damp rag, checking near the feeder opening for anything that might be stuck there.
Also look on the bottom near the teeth and see if there is a contact switch that is dirty or not sitting down properly.
