We have a red light flashing on the front of the tv.It shut off and we don't know how to turn it back on.

power supply board is faulty need to check the power transistors and fuses u will need a tech to solve this

Well either the TV's main (or other) board overloads the power board and it shuts itself off or the power board itself shuts itself off for whatever reason or the main board shuts off for whatever reason.

With the setup you have I'd say it's probably going to be difficult to figure out which one it is.

You will want to have yet another board - either main or power - to eliminate one of the two most likely possibilities.

What did you do with the original power board?

If you keep it you can probably send it to us for repair....or if it's cheap enough just buy another one.

i don't think there's an easier and affordable way to narrow it down than using a third board.

how many times does the red light blink on tv.

U mean the Lamp door cover?Yes?Tv might work,might not.Don't know never tries to turn the tv on before without a Lamp door cover close before.There is a blue safety switch though must be press down when the Lamp door cover is close.Test it out.Why don't u just take a piece of tape and tape that blue safety switch down tightly,than turn on the tv.If the tv message that said close lamp cover correctly disappear.Than yes the tv will work,without the lamp cover closed.Now u just needed to do a replacement of the tv projection lamp only that all.

Check High voltage Block.After replacing ic's (STK convergence ic's) you need to adjust Black&White scale.Turn ALL screen adjustments to min.Turn TV on and adjust screen slowly for each gun (I would start with Red first ) when you came to point that you see red background with white lines across, at that point G2 is too high (that will cause TV to shut down,don't worry just lowered adjustment and turn tv back on) so adjust to proper voltage and do the same for each gun.After that, adjust focus for each gun (again all controls are on High Voltage Block and HVB is mounted on front of your tv after you take speaker gril out) black box with 6 controls' screen RGB, focus RGB .
You should do that in dark room in order to get perfect Black&White scale,when all guns are adjusted properly you will see grey picture.Make sure 'Color" adjustment on your display is down to 0. Another step is convergence adjustment ,Flash Focus etc.If TV stil shuts off after all, your Red picture tube is short inside,take crt pcb from tube,make sure TV is unpluged from power before that, and turn Tv on .If stays On tube need replacment...good luck)

My sony 65Ws500 model about 4 months ago it started turning the screen all blue as soon as I turned it on. it stayed blue for about an hour then come back on normal now when I turn it on it will shut down and I get a small red light flashing 8 time then pauses and does it again 8 time then pauses then again and so on. I took back panel off. I turn on tv The blue bulb gets very bright and the green and red projection bulb goes out and now it shuts off. and the blinking starts it a code flashing but don't know the code to find out whats wrong. would someone help if u can been wife and I laid off from work 3 months now cant afford tech prices on our employment. wife and I has 2 little girls to raise. along with the rest of u parent out there and one getting employment cant offord repairs. Please count red light flashes and let me know. There would be long pause between flashes so count pause to pause. It is an error code of TV problem.

Open the back of the TV,and look at the can shaped items on the boards.If any of them have the tops,or bottoms bulged out,they need to be replaced.This should get it working again.I hope this helps.If you have any questions,please let me know.Thank You very much!
