There is no availabe network driver for this Latitude d600 found on the dell support website that will work for vista. Most probably this computer is not configured to work with vista.

Call Dell Technical support for answers.

The ethernet controller on my Dell Latitude C540/C640 Notebook has not worked in a while. I am able to get wireless internet access, but no luck when I try to connect to my router via a direct line. I...

If you are using Windows XP, go to Control Panel > Network Connections. Right click on Local Area Connection and then click Enable. (This is only applicable if the ethernet port is disabled).

Also, you may go to Device Manager (Right Click My Computer > Manage > Device Manager) and then check if the ethernet is disabled or has a question or exclamation mark.

If both dont work, your ethernet controller is broken.

Lan connection has disappeared from network but wireless works

Have you run the Dell Diagnostics test? reboot the computer and hit the F12 key, scroll down to the diagnostic option and run the test, it will check hardware and memory etc.

No internet when docked.. needs network controller

Assume the docking station is powered. I have seen funny behaviour with my docking station. Sure way for it all to work is, everything off, fit to docking station, turn on with power button on docking station. Ensure network cable plugged before this.

Ethernet card problem

I have a Dell Inspiron and when it operates on batteries it automatically (by default) shuts down the wired network adapter when not in use. The solution may be to insure the network cable is plugged in before starting the laptop or to learn where in the power management utilities to turn on the wired network adapter -- I believe it can be done permanently at the cost of reducing battery operating time overall. It can probably also be done on a when needed basis. My Dell currently does not have windows on it and the operation on my machine may not be the same as on a Latitude. When this happened I used to get little balloon notices from a systool bar icon, however I also modified the default configuration to show my network devices in the systool bar when connected as well as when disconnected.

Ethernet port doesn't recognize internet

ok i have herd of service pack 2 causing these problems, go to dell website , see if there are any service pack 2 fixes to download for your model laptop , or any updated drivers for your laptop , it does almost sound like a Harware problem , but i dont think thats the case , reinstaling xp may be the solution , start from scratch , and take note of what you install , as it maybe be some other software / programs causing this, it's also possible it is spyware or a virus causing this , spware doctor is a good program to use , you can download it for free and do a check , but u will need to buy it to clean the infections, unless u know how to pirate it, which i dont think im allowed to say ,
