Sylvania 27" derailed by Emerson universal remote

I bought an Emerson Jumbo Universal remote and programmed it for the TV.
Trying to learn the functions of the buttons (mostly to access the game channel for DVD player use) I hit a button that produced a pattern of numbers on the screen (2's in each corner, and 8-10 random looking numbers and a black rectangle on the upper right that looked like a spot for numeric input)

After this appeared - the Jumbo NOR the original remote would work. BUT - I pressed the "MENU" button on the set and it brought up purple lettering at the top of the screen for changing contrast, color, brightness, etc...all numerically changeable with the channel and/or volume buttons onboard.

REMOTES ARE STILL NOT FUNCTIONING ! HELP !!
