Installed new optical drive in Vostro 1510, but no sound from speakers, media control buttons don't work

When you replaced the drive did you take the top off? It sounds to me like a wire that came out.

You have a stuck key on the laptop. I would purchase a new one on EBay. They are not expensive! and easy to install. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/vos1510/en/index.htm

Dell Vostro 1510 Power but no boot

Have you plugged in an external monitor to see if there is any output on the screen? You could have a LCD problem or the motherboard is shot. I would also remove the RAM from the machine to see if it gives you any beep codes. This will tell you if your computer is going through POST. If your computer gives you beep codes then theres a good chance your motherboard is still ok.
