SOURCE: Forgotten HDD password on Dell Vostro 1510

If it truly is the HDD password, Dell will be of no help to you, as they have no control over the HDD Password; the password is stored in a hidden sector on the HDD itself.

The only people that could help you with that is the manufacturer of the HDD, and odds are they won't help you. It would involve sending the drive back to the manufacturer, and paying them a heft fee to unlock it. It would be returned to you, but would be blank, as they have no way of knowing that the data on it truly belongs to you.

Today happens to be your lucky day however, as I stumbled upon what seems to be a very useful piece of software. There are many restrictions with it's use, so make sure you can manage this. It would involve you connecting your laptop drive into a desktop system in order to perform the task of unlocking, only works with certain drives, and has been known to not work on some Dell HDDs, amongst many other things. Link is below..

There is a reason people put passwords on the HDD, and that is for total security... Good Luck my man, good luck!

My dell vostro 1510 turns on but the screen remains off, completely black. What should I check for a diagnosis?

Always start with checking the connections/cables. If they are secure, verify that the monitor is set to display the correct signal (ie. Analog or Digital by pressing the buttons on the monitor) You should see text on the monitor screen letting you know the display type.

Dell vostro blinking 9

if there is no display showing at all you may want to reset the CMOS of your motherboard. to do this try undoing the ram panel from underneath the computer. make sure the computer is turned off and the battery unplugged. remove the ram, turn the computer on and you should hear some beeping. turn the computer back off, replace the ram and then turn it back on again, this should give you video output if the screen isn't faulty

I updated the bios on the dell vostro 1000 and it wouldn't start. The power light stays on and you can hear the fan. This is followed by a long beep and 2 short beeps while the screen stays black.

Hi alkeith...
Turn on the computer while tapping F8, this will take you into the Safe Mode.
While your in the Safe Mode you can do a system restore.
Restore your computer back to an earlier time when it was working before you installed the bios change.
Left click on Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.
This should solve your problem.

Dell Vostro 1510 Power but no boot

Have you plugged in an external monitor to see if there is any output on the screen? You could have a LCD problem or the motherboard is shot. I would also remove the RAM from the machine to see if it gives you any beep codes. This will tell you if your computer is going through POST. If your computer gives you beep codes then theres a good chance your motherboard is still ok.

No output at all

okay close laptop remove battery, open ram / memory compartment, remove memory. try holding down power button for 3 minutes. THEN INSTALL BATTERY , NOT RAM/ MEMORY AND PRESS POWER BUTTON AND IF YOU HEAR A SOUND THAT GOOD NEWS THE SCREEN MIGHT COME ON, OR IT MAY NOT, BUT YOU SHOULD HEAR A BEEP, IF POWER BUTTON REMAINS LIT HOLD DOWN TILL COMPUTER TURNS OFF, THEN INSERT MEMORY/ RAM AND FIRE IT UP. WORK THESE STEPS

Screen went black, but still on...turned it off...now won't start up.

All Dell laptops have a similar design flaw (in my opinion). The socket where the power cord plugs in to the laptop is probably loose. Use a toothpick or something to check it. Don't use anything metalic. If the socket moves easily then it has probably come loose from the motherboard. You may want to take the laptop to a computer repair shop to have the power socket soldered back to the motherboard. If you have the knowledge you can do this yourself but I don't suggest it. Laptops have a LOT of small parts. Hope this helps! Thanks!
