You are in for a hard time getting it for free. Sony is one of the hardest to get manuals for. The cheapest I could find is Service-Manuals-Schematic.com 12.95. I quit long ago working on Sony because of this problem. Maybe a chance you will it on ebay.
minor evrey thing can be repaired chack all the fuses see if in clean inside open it first there are smalal ic fuses near the fbt (some thing big on the pcb with red cable going to the CRT) check for bad connection if you have multimeter test the FBT transisor
well the tv has more than one iput with wich you can view your dvd from and they are all labelled as video1 and video 2 please identify which one you are using then as you do the connection make sure that the yellow terminal from the tv is for picture and white for audio.make sure if you connect to video 1 then select screen option as av 1.
The inputs you refer to should be colored as follows. Red Blue Green Red White (not necessarily in this order) These are what are called Component Video inputs and is one of the way that HD capable equipment connect to your television. It will not get true HD picture but this input will provide you with a crisper clearer picture.
