The iron has white flakes coming from the steam vents.

The white flakes can be caused by calcium or other minerals in the tap water. To solve this problem, switch to bottled spring water. Once the water is changed it may take several uses before your iron adjusts to the new mixture and the issue is corrected.

How do I get the white stuff out of my iron? It appears to be some kind of mineral deposit and I can't find my owners manual to help me.

hi.

the white stuff is a mineral deposit from using hard water.
any proprietary descaling solution should remove this.
if you then use any of the scented ironing waters available from the supermarket, the scale will not return.

How do i descale a SWAN iron model no S15030N. CAN I PUT DESCALER INTO WATER STORAGE TANK

The best and cheapest way to descale irons, steamers, etc. is to use white vinegar, mixed 1 cup to a quart of water. Pour in the iron and allow to steam. The vinegar will dissolve the calcium, which is the blocking scale. Do this a few times toensure that the holes are clear and operating correctly. For the last rinse, put a little lemon into plain water and allow to steam. This gets rid of any vinegar smell.

How do i clean my iron so brown dirt won't come out of it when i iron

Hi,

Brown water and white scale are often the result of the water you use in the iron...

If you have scale, white vinegar will clean that...

For brown water, empty the iron, rinse out the insides with bottled water,

and then use the bottled water instead...

Run white vinegar through the iron over the sink with iron on high & steam button pressed down. This should dissolve any minerals that build up in it. Then run water through it over the sink to rinse the vinegar out.

I was getting ready to iron a pair of pants that were polyesterrayon and 4% spandex. I thought I had my Rowenta iron turned down low enough but when I placed the iron on the pants they melted. Well...

First, UNPLUG THE IRON. DO THIS PART COLD. Clean the soleplate with scotch brite and WD-40. Next, you will have to remove the WD-40 residue from the soleplate with something like windex. Make sure you get around the steam holes.
Next-Plug it in and fill it with 50-50 mix of water and white vinegar. Set it for steam and let it run through. Refill it with plain water and steam it out again, until there is NO VINEGAR SMELL. This will clean the deposits out of the tank and steam vents.
