HP P4SD, its running good with 4 gb RAM, P4 3.0ghz, and a couple sata hd. The problem is the fan output voltage, i havent been able to read the output chassis and cpu cooler pins voltage cause i can find my multimeter, but its clearly off, the cpu fan runs slowly, the normal 80mm chassis fans wont even start, so i plugged in another fan just to skip the "chassis fan not detected" error. It all works fine, but fans dont get enough juice to run properly, tried different fans, and PSU, nothing changes. The voltage read of +12V supply in linux its +3.25V

"i can find my dmm?" did you mean CAN'T?
"its clearly off", what is off?
the fans are 3 pins,2 are power, one is RPM tachometer.
"it all works fine", so you can boot and run any OS, ?

"the voltage reads +12vdc", where, at fan or PSU?
the fans run off 12vdc, they are DC motors (from outside fan)
if the fan runs slow at 12vdc the the fan is bad or is a low RPM
fan, as some are, bigger fans run slow, for less noise.!

first is the CPU fan it must run full speed, if not the CPU will overheat in seconds and ALL CPU shut them selves (by there selves) this way. so CPU fan is first. what does it do... there....?

then BIOS screens. GOT BIOS UP? and running? with, ESC key pressed>.
let me guess your symptoms
1: PC dead. will not boot.
2: BIOS dead.
3: all fans DEAD,.
4: power switch works and all PSU voltages read right, (seems not)/?
5: if the PSU power wire reads right(DMM), matching the side sticker voltages, and the CPU is dead, the MOBO is dead, or CPU is toasted.

here is a modern PSU, sticker.
see 5 to 10 power lines, see them. all must read correctly
if a fan is dead, then its dead if 12vdc is present on the fan power pins.

SOURCE: hp a705w desktop (pc on fan on but no signal to other locations)

Hi there.
The best way to check if the processor is at fault is turn the machine on for a couple of minutes, then turn it off.
Disconnect the CPU fan and heatsink and feel the processor, if its warm or hot then the processor is fine.
In most cases its the bios chip which is down so if you can clear the CMOS or remove the power cord from the back and take the motherboard battery out for half an hour.
See if that gets you anywhere.

Good luck and thanks for choosing FixYa!!

SOURCE: p4sd socket 478 motherboard is not booting up at all !!!

1st check if the voltage from the plug has correct groung , neutral phase set .then
try a new smps , with minimum 400W output.
before connecting the same.
please remove all the parts out of the cabinet please connect only motherboard and smps and check its getting switched on , if not then your board is burnt you will have to replace it , if there is power indication then connect the RAM and check , if its also fine then connect the rest and try.
all this u have tried and no use , please post me a msg with full detail of your PC configuration , I can try a resolution

Do you have the Restoration Disk?

You have corrupted basic Windows files. How? Windows is a funny animal. That, and viruses just drive Windows users crazy.

The Restoration (CD) Disk has the basic Windows files. You can do a Repair.
Start the computer, insert the Restoration Disk in the optical drive. Close the drive tray.
When asked perform a Non-Destructive Installation.

Don't have the Restoration Disk?

Contact HP Support.
The disk/s are free. The shipping and handling is not.
In the US the phone number is 1-800-474-6836

It's $17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.

Not in the US?

Can I ugrade ram and hardrive with Quanta 30D1 S1 motherboard please, If yes, by how much?

It has SATA drive and you can upgrade to any standard size, You might have a problem with the data cable.
It was an advanced laptop for the moment it was released in 2007 but obviously now it's rather old. Originally run with Windows Vista but I believe shouldn't have any problem with Windows 7. If you want to save yourself problems, don't upgrade it to windows 10!
I'm sure you can upgrade memory to 4 gb but don't have info if accepts more then 4 Gb

Is this going to be surfice?

Yup this used pc has a superior processor running at 2.8 Ghz, more ram, and a better video card. Also windows 7 is a 64 bit system and it runs better even on slower pcs because its more compatible for dual core processors. Enjoy your faster pc.

I have HP Comaq Presario SR1617CL Desktop PC, part number ED870AA with a Samsung SpinPoint P80 SP1604N - hard drive - 160 GB - ATA-133, I would like to upgrade to a 500GB hard drive. I have a ASUS A8AE-LE...

XP cannot be installed natively on an SATA disk without the appropriate driver which must be loaded during the install - an extremely complicated maneuver. The best way to deal with that is to just add the new SATA hard disk: install XP on the PATA and use the new SATA for your files as a separate partition. The adapter cable can be bought for about $5 from the same shop as the hdd.
All the other modifications are just fine - just remember , the RAM will not be fully recognized and used because of the limitations of the 32bit XP.

You can only download drivers for the chip set that is in your laptop. Any other will give trouble.
Consult your manual or HP.com to be sure what is actually there.

Dear Sir, my mother board d101 has been damaged can i use of p4sd m/b insted of that while i want all rest parts remain using i dont want change ram,SMPS, Proccesser etc.

fbhushan, the Intel D101GGC motherboard (Grand Country) supports;

1) Intel Pentium 4, Intel Celeron D, and Intel Pentium D processors that fit in an
> LGA 775 processor socket.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_775

The Processor has the socket holes, and the processor socket (LGA 775) has the pins.
775 socket holes, and 775 pins.

The Front Side Bus (FSB) can be either 533MegaHertz, or 800MHz.

2) Supports DDR Sdram ram memory at either 333MegaHertz or 400MHz.
(PC2700 and PC3200, respectively)

Will support Up To 2GB of ram memory.
Has two ram memory slots. The maximum amount for EACH slot is 1GB

3) The SMPS used for it has,
A) One 24-pin ATX main power cable

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atxmain24

B) One 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atx12v4

The Intel D101GGC motherboard has Four SATA headers (Connectors) on it, so I'm going to assume you are using a SATA harddrive.
This would mean the SMPS you are using should have at least one SATA power cable.

It should also have an assortment of 4-pin standard Peripheral power cables.
(Misnomered as 'Molex')

The Asus P4SD (Motherboard chipset Intel 865PE) supports;

1) Intel Pentium 4 and Intel Celeron processors that fit in a > Socket 478 processor socket

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_478

The Processor has the pins, and the processor socket has the socket holes.
478 pins, and 478 socket holes.

Your Processor will NOT work.

The Ram Memory WILL work.

The SMPS MAY work.

I state MAY because the Asus P4SD motherboard uses a 20-pin ATX main power cable.

If the last four pins of the 24-pin ATX main power cable that you have on your SMPS right now, Do Not remove, you can Carefully cut them off. Wrap them up, and out of the way.
If you need guidance on this I can help instruct you.

You need an IDE (PATA) harddrive, or a SATA adapter card to use a SATA harddrive.

So there you have it sir.

Installed new power supply on hp m470n cannot remember which wires go where HELP

The large power connector goes onto your motherboard--20 or 24 pin--in the socket provided. It can only go in one way.
There is probably a second connector, a 4-pin--that will plug into the motherboard near the CPU. It, too, can go in only one way.
Other than that, you just have to hook up the power to the hard drive and CD/DVD.

If you have a high-performance video card that has a power connection, it's probably a 6-pin connector.

Need to find a new alum&copper heatsink and fan combo

This is a standard micro atx board. The holes you are seeing will be on any 478 mobo, you just have to remove the black bracket, which is usually achieved by lifting the center pin in each of the corners.

Installed more ram and now can't find the hard drive

Pull out the new RAM chips and install the old one or ones and see if it boots ok. I had this same problem. This can also be caused by no using matched sets of RAM chips. In my case I added one and used the factory one as well, caused the same issue as you have.
