I don't know of any way to drain a torque converter without removing it. It is possible to REPLACE the fluid by using a flush machine - but not to drain it...assuming you don't want to create drastic and irreparable damage to the transmission bell house and the torque converter itself.

Bear in mind - if you fluid is BLACK and burnt - you could have metal shavings and particles in the transmission fluid which is still allowing it to even work. If you flush the fluid - your transmission my not be able to function at all after.

old school method was to drill a hole in the side so as not to damage converter clutch. even if you pulled trans you will not be able to totally drain converter. trans fluid is very high detergent if you flush it all the trash/****/varnish goes into the pan and WILL plug up the filter.
if you must have red/pink fluid then best to drop pan and change filter and gasket, let sit overnight it will drain out quite a bit, reinstall and add 4qts , start car add about4 more then start checking level
The Trans is burnt & unuseable

I have no Idea how there could be any discussion
about a burn trans. It was run into the ground & the
fluid never changed. You don't have to get fluid out
of a converter. As was said. When it is burnt or slips
it will slip worst. You would think after 70 years people
would understand auto tranjs fluid

I wish you can. Yes you need to remove the torque converter. I'm just curios, Why do you need drain the Converter ?
