My recently purchased used MT180HD tractor will not move. I replaced all hydraulic oil, checked the clutch, and adjusted linkage. What next??? Are my hydraulic pumps bad?? Can a mechanical transmission be swapped into this hydraulic model easily?

Hi there joedorava

is there input to pumps , are there any leaks in the system either oil / air

have you purged all the air from the hydro units and wheel motors

if air is entraineed in oil , you may get alot of noise from caviatation in the pumps and wheel motors also heat , and vibration and no movement until all the air is gone
top up oil to correct level

caviatation can be quite destructive on pumps etc

i assume you used the correct hydraulic fluid for the unit in question

have you checked changed hydraulic filters when changed hydraulic fluid ?

other than that cant give any more info

cheers pauly46

I backed the tractor into the barn no problem about two weeks later i went to use the tractor and it wouldnt shift into gear it would just grind i adjusted the free travel on clutch didnt help oil level is...

This is something that is difficult to diagnose without seeing it and being hands on, but I'll make some suggestions on what to look for and check. With the engine off, work the clutch pedal. Work it a lot. does it seem to have anything on it? I mean does it seem to move the clutch at all? If no, it could be something as simple as a linkage that came apart, but isn't readily visible. Does this model have a hydraulic clutch? When you say oil level is good, do you mean the engine oil or the hydraulic oil for the clutch if it has one? If it does have a hydraulic clutch then you need to check the fluid in the master cylinder. This should be located in somewhere along the linkage path, often under a removable plate, or near the engine. This is also called a "wet" clutch. My old tractor had an inspection cover underneath, if yours has one to the clutch, get somebody to work the pedal while you look at it with a good light. if the plates move when they work it, then it's doing what it's supposed to, or trying to. you could have simply blown out the clutch plate. Wish I could see it, that would help a lot.

My 1989 nissan maxima needs clutch linkage adjusted. how do u fix tht ?

This car uses a hydraulic clutch where brake fluid moves the clutch disc instead of a cable or linkage.
You might have a fluid or cylinder problem, or the clutch may be worn out depending on the symptom.

PtO will not engage on cub cadet 1000

It would be helpful if I knew whether it was working and quit or has never worked. At any rate it has of course a live PTO on it (not dependent on the clutch to engage-disengage it). Check your linkage, make sure nothing has come loose and not moving the travel rod. Secondly some models have a hydraulic fluid compartment that is used for the PTO alone, check to see if this is the case and if so check fluid levels. Back to linkage, the engage mechanism is usually a lever of some type that moves a valve body and lets hydraulic flow under extreme and engage s set of input and output clutches together. If your engage mechanism is a magnetic clutch, check for bad wiring and burnt fuses. If it is a fuse replace with the same value as already in the harness. If the new fuse flows don't do like me and put a larger fuse in it, though that will show what wires are involved with the clutch engagement it also shows the wires to be replaced. Check wiring for ***** wires or wires worn and touching metal parts and grounding out.Back to Hydraulics again, unless you've loaded the PTO hard enough to burn the clutches out (which I doubt very much) it can only be that fluid is not getting to the clutches. Chances that there is a problem inside the tractor with the valve body are slim but possible. Most PTO that just quit are caused by linkage problems or low Hydraulic fluid. Check all the above, I believe you will find your problem lies somewhere in what I have explained. I farmed for 30 years and we ran from 140 -250 HP tractors and if a PTO went out it was usually linkage or low Hydraulic Fluid. Hope this helps, don't want to miss a crop over a PTO!Col. I just replaced the clutch and pressure plate. Now when i press the clutch the oil light on the dashboard comes on and when I release the clutch, it goes off. Can you please assist?

Check your clutch linkage from the pedal to the bell housing. if you have a hydraulic clutch check the hyd. line and the slave cylinder---anything that moves when you work the clutch.
Check for loose wires hanging down or making contact with the clutch assy.---sounds like you have a rub somewhere that is grounding out or pinching a wire to the oil sending unit when the clutch is depressed. This will trigger the oil light. Hope this helps.

Stuggle to get get gears(1-4and reverse) in a 1995 vw chico. Is the clutch gone?

The clutch may be fine but need adjusting or bleeding (if it's a hydraulic clutch). This can also be caused by a failing throwout bearing, pressure plate, clutch fork, low fluid in a hydraulic clutch or a mechanical linkage that's out of adjustment.

Check for low fluid first because it's an easy solution. If the clutch uses a cable or linkage check the adjustment, it may need tightening.

It's important to address this soon because when you have to force a transmission into gear you're wearing out the synchronizers and you'll miss them when they're gone.

would say that your variable displacement pump has rust or other on/inside, it.

Are you using hydralic fluid (not eng oil) in her?
Can you let it run on blocks for a bit - drain and re-fill transmission?
