It might be residue from oil leak repair, I'd keep an eye on it for 1-200 miles and check levels regularly. Or another oil leak...

SMOKE UNDER HOOD COULD BE COOLANT LEAK FROM RADIATOR ITSELF OR CHECK FOR LEAKING TOP RADIATOR HOSE AND CHECK FOR LEAKING BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE.LOOK UNDER THE HOOD IF COOLANT BOILING OUT COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG ENGINE OVERHEATING FROM BAD THERMOSTAT OR BAD WATER PUMP.CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAK AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE.IF SO WATER PUMP NEED REPLACING.ADD MORE COOLANT UNTIL LEVEL CORRECT.TRY LOCATE LEAK. IF CAR OVERHEATED AND BOILED IT OUT. SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD CAN ALSO BE CAUSED BY LEAKING VALVE COVERS WHICH CAN BE FIRE HAZARD IF OIL LEAKS ON HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD.

I have a 1988 Scottsdale 305 4x4 manual trans.its leaking oil so bad smoke rolls from under the hood when I come to a stop.i know the exhaust it lose but could it be just that?

Yup, oil is leaking directly onto the exhaust and burning. Fix the oil leaks, normally always the valve cover gaskets, and replace the pcv valve(PCV positive crankcase ventilation valve). See can you put another PCV valve in the other valve cover and run it to the breather. The more of these lines you hook between the engine and breather, the less it will leak because vacuum is pulling all the pressure out of the engine block and crankcase so it won't push the oil out. My 383 small block has a bad front main seal, I hooked up another tube and it can't push oil out the seal. No more leaks. Hope you get her fixed soon Bro, you really look bad with all that smoke coming from your truck.

Why does my infiniti fx35 2005 smoke when i start it up but after it heats it stopes

valve seals leaking oil into combustion chambers. Its a small leak that lets oil into the cylinder as it sits. It still leaks when your driving it at operating temp, but the leak is so small, its not noticeable. In a matter of a few hours tho, 4 little drops of oil will enter the cylinder, just enough to cause smoke. Drive on, no big deal unless it smokes under load, which means worn valves.

My Mazda 1997 626 is smoking when driven. Just had exhaust and transmisson work. Mechanics say it's fine

its time to look under the car yourself for a oil leak or even a plastic bag burning on the exhaust you have been checking the engine oil have you checked the transmission fluid level? the trans is on the drivers side i believe

What are common causes for engine oil being burned under the hood but the leak is out of line of sight?

It very well may be comeing from under the engine, sounds like there is an oil leak that only leaks under presure and is leaking on to the hot exhast.

Engine smokes and burns of oil or something else burning.

if it is the camaro in the pick , they usually leak by the valve cover gaskets, right to the manifolds , that way the smoke and you don;t find the leak because it burns the oil

Smoke is coming out from under my hood...checked antifreeze and oil so it fine

white smoke usualy tells about a leakage in the cooling. check that. dont forgett to refill. get it repaired or DIY. attention: could be really hot.

if it smells like fuel, a fuel line is broken. then dont drive any more since it can catch fire.

if the smoke is not white, go to the repair shop instantly.

Smoke coming from exhaust pipe

It sounds like you have an oil leak. The head gasget may not be blown, but if there is a leak in the oil system the exaust will be smokey from burning the oil. Keep an eye on the oil level and it appears to be lower than normal, then thats probably the problem.
