If it is a GMC Canyon, then the wire is light blue at the brake pedal harness. Be sure to test this wire before connecting as this wire will test 12V+ when the pedal is pushed in. The parking brake wire is also light blue and can be found at the parking brake switch. Peripheral electronics makes a box called a PTR-7 which can be connected to the alpine and serves the purpose of the brake connections for the video bypassing of the unit. Hope this helps.

Parking brake light is on

You may have play in the park brake pedal due to park brake cables needing servive/repair. If you pull up on the park brake pedal when the light is on... will it go out? Another reason for this light to come on is low brake fluid. Have the level checked

Using without parking break

Hi James,

Page 27 of the installation manual (http://www.wwstereo.com/_files/155788/documents/Kenwood--Manual.pdf) shows a connection to the parking brake light circuit. It is the Light Green wire labeled "PRK SW" shown below.

507e8abd-cbd0-4811-9c76-ad8a0f498b77.jpg

If it is connected the way it is drawn, the PRK SW wire is connected between the lamp and the switch that opens and closes depending on the position of the parking brake (set or not). 12 volts is always present from the battery to the top of the lamp. It passes thru the filament to the wire that goes the top of the parking brake switch. So, when the brake is OFF or disengaged, the lamp is off and 12 volts is present on the PRK SW wire to your Kenwood GPS. When you set the parking brake, the ground (symbol is the funny slanted lines under a horizontal line) just under the brake switch passes through the switch and changes voltage at the PRK SW to "ground" or 0 volts. When this happens, the ground on one side of the lamp with 12 volts on the other side of the lamp - make is turn on.

So, what does this mean? Simply tie the PRK SW wire to any grounded metal and the Kenwood will think the parking brake is always set - for as long as it is tied to ground. You can check it with a simple voltmeter to be sure. Set the meter to 12 volts or more, touch black lead to ground & the red lead to the PRK SW wire. Kenwood should only work when at 0 volts (brake set). Release the brake - meter shows 12 volts & the Kenwood shuts off.

I hope this helps & Good luck!

Where is the parking brake switch located on a 2007 GMC Sierra Classic? I am trying to hook up the parking brake wire and can't seem to find it.

Why don't you just install a toggle switch? Place one end on the parking brake wire from the Pioneer unit and the other end to ground. This replicates putting the parking brake on and enables you to watch movies.

The video wont work but the audio work perfectly fine.

the reason your seeing that message is because there is a wire on the head unit that needs to be connected to the parking brake switch on your car. the wire your looking for is a light green color that needs to be spliced into the positive side of the parking brake switch. once you hook that wire up the video portion of the head unit will work but you have to have the car in park with the parking brake applied. if you comment back with the make and model of car your driving i might be able to tell you where the parking brake switch is and what color wire to splice the light green wire into.
