you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard or
you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall your DVD/CD then reinstall the driver for this device
if your computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll down cd dvdrom drives if you see a yellow question or exclamation mark?! or a red x right click you will need to update the driver or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver

it's a cd driver & writer not a dvd player
So get yourself a DVD RW drive

The laser inside the unit that "burns" onto the CD has failed.
For $40, buy a new CD/DVD burner.

If the old unit is still under warranty, exercise the warranty to get a replacement.

HEY is it playing other DVD'S check is it a combo drive , dvd wirter or a cd writer, if its only a cd wirter then it won't play DVD

Firmware v1.19 for the LG GCE-8240B burner. After downloading double-click the file to start the extraction program. Accept the default unzip folder (C \8240firm119) then click the UNZIP button. 2 files will be written to the folder. One is the firmware (the exe file) and the other is a instructions.txt file. Be sure to read/print the instructions before attempting to use the firmware upgrade. Paying particular attention to the section dealing with whether your drive is OEM or LG. This firmware is only for LG drives and will not work on LG OEM drives. Use this file at your own risk. I nor driverguide.com will not assume any responsibility if your drive is damaged.

You need to go to the control panel then to add remove programs and uninstall any programs that have anything to do with said drive then use the cd that came with the drive and reinstall everything that should fix the problem.

Try uninstalling the current driver, then applying the updated driver, worst case scenerio is you get the current driver again

It could be that it needs a lens cleaner or realigning, but try this and see if it cures it, sometimes it works. If it still persists go to my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager and go down the list to cd/dvd drives, click on the '+' and right click on your listed drive and select uninstall. restart the notebook and then the drive will be re installed with drivers automatically.
