Have a Mitsubishi Big Screen, Model VS-5043 (AC 120V, 60H, 210W), and get no picture. I believe all I need are bulbs. Think it's worth a try to get them or should I have a repair guy get a look-see?

Hi dejjjavuu,

You have 50% chance that it is a bulb problem but you have a ballast board that supply the bulb also. The problem is, this board needs to check with an experienced technician for fault. But for me I've suspected also the bulb most especially if the unit is more than a year old, you can't test this bulb unless swap a new working bulb in the ballas board that's why you need to call an expert. However if you have a spare bulb you can swap it and try.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.

These the most common failures for this TV Model VS-5043- VZ3:

1. Check base bias Voltage of Q217, for 0 VDC (BIASED OFF) if .7 VDC (BIASED ON) check C268 (22 UFD 50 V) off C OF Q215 V-Protector on the SIGNAL PCB.

2. Vertical Beam Blanking Active, check PIN 4 of IC401 for 3 VDC. If missing check IC202 (5V REG) PART # 266P932010, on The SIGNAL PCB.

3. Check Pin 6 of IC200 for 9 VDC if low or missing check IC203 Part#

Mitsubishi vs-5051

First you can safely take off back and look for Screen controls&Focus, Gently turn up the 3 screen controls this will add light to picture, but you need to evenly turn up, the 3 colors are red, blue, green. the other 3 knobs are for focus. Do not turn them if you do you will need to realign the focus also. And if this doesn't help then there is a high voltage capacitor leaky in the flyback area.

Convergence Problem?

Convergence problems are what you have possibly a pincushion error. Either way if you have to have a repair shop do the repair, you should look at replacing the old TV.

Mitsubishi model vs-5043

I just had this same exact problem. I looked for an answer on here and could not find one. So I took the back off, vacuumed and cleaned everything out with the hose on my house vacuum, cleaned the bulbs and wiggled them around some. Voila !!!! lights on and all is working fine and better then ever. I hope this helps someone fix their problem. Just saved me tons of money and a morning of hassle.
