I switch on my PC, ensuring that all cables, leads
and power supplies are connected properly. The tower powers up no
problems at all. I switch the screen on, the green led lights up, the
screen is completely black. A blue box appears centrally on the screen
with the text 'power saving mode'. The green led light turns amber and
then the screen just goes black.
Please don't suggest going to control panel, as I can't get that far.
PLEASE PLEASE CAN ANYONE SUGGEST ANYTHING give me
Make sure the connection between the computer and the back of the monitor is good... mine sometimes slips out on the back of the monitor and does that too.
Sometimes an old driver for this monitor will mistakenly believe it can
display a higher resolution - and so it goes out of range when things
autorun.
Step one - if you can, connect to another monitor, or your tv, with both
old and new hardware installed and simply download and install the new
driver.
If that doesn't work, boot into safe mode (it naturally sets a lower resolution).
And when all else fails.... Best trick I've found is to clear your CMOS (reset your BIOS)
and, oddly, plug in a different keyboard to a different port and hold
delete when you boot. If you need to repeat, change keyboards again.
(make sure you hold the delete key down before you even plug the
computer back in and it should work fine.) Also, for those unfamiliar
with resetting their BIOS, write down your settings first, or ask a
friend.
G'luck! Took me some research but I eventually made mine behave. :)
