Akai 1080i The picture looks like you need 3-D glasses to watch and get the picture to come together. We don't have an Akai repairman in our zip code. We bought the TV from Costco 4 years ago and this has been a problem for the last year. HELP!

I have a PT4298HD. I moved the TV from one side of the room, to the other. Now, the convergence is off and the picture bows to the middle of the screen.

I took the back of the tv off and the blue lamp is not bright like the red and green. Could this be a coolant problem or lamp. I have the PT5492S Akai rear projection TV.

The blue is usually dimmer than the other two lens; what I would suggest is try to look into the lens with the set on; BE CAREFUL AND NOT TOUCH ANYTHING INSIDE THE SET.

If the red and green show a picture but the blue looks like a floodlight you have bad Glycol in the blue tube (common in these sets).

If all have a normal picture remember to wipe the lens clean at the top; do not try to take the lens etc apart.

Before you rate this information let me know what you find.

Convergence panasonic HDTV 1080i bbe hi definition

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

The kit comes with original Sanyo STK IC’S , not those cheap aftermarket or china made IC’S full pictorial directions, the thermal paste, resistors, the correct Pico fuses, AND free live on-Line tech assistance in case you run into a problem with the repair. They ship out 2 to 3 day Priority mail, the next day in most cases you may need to open the set and tell them what the STK numbers are on the chipsGOOD LUCK!!!

Sony Hi-Scan 1080i 52" projection TV colors won't converge

No you will need to repace compents. Do you know how to solder and use a meter? If so I can assist you with the repair. If not you will need a repairman, he will cost you about $300-$500 for the fix.

    Auto Focus Stoped Working

If the convergence is very far off the convergence ICs are bad and need to be replaced first. If the convergence is close and it wont correct it might just be an insect or some dust on the sensors at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock posistions behind the screen.
