My DVD recorder LG RH1858 isn't recording properly. It shows the message "record blocking sidnal are detected". Please inform.

Unfortunately, your recorder is picking up a signal in the broadcast that copy-protects the show. The recorder is programmed to forbid copying of protected material. Depending on the source of the copy-protection, you may be able to block out the copy protection signal with a hardware filter. One example of these would be the Sima CT-2 that is placed between the S-out of the receiver and the S-in of the recorder.

I hope this helps.

(One common sources with this issue: a DVR that passes on the copy protection to an attached DVD recorder. Particularly some of the new Satellite/Cable receivers with built-in DVRs. The non-DVR models of the products usually filter out the copy-protection.)

I have burned a .wma video file on a cd-r, on my computer it runs perfectly... only when i put it in my dvd player it say's stop and won't play. Can someone help me out ? Thanks Jeff

Several causes for non-playback:
1. Your CD player doesn't like CD-R
2. Your CD player doesn't recognize wma
3. The music you converted to wma is copy protected and the CD player wont play due to that.

Solutions:
1. Most likely this isn't the problem as most working CD/DVD players recognize CD-R. Double check with your user manual.
2. Check your DVD player's playback formats. Most will play mp3 and wav. If that's the case, rip your music to mp3.
3. There are many hacks out there to remove copy protection. This you'll have to figure out on your own :)

Brand new DVDs will not play in Samsung Progressive Scan v3650

If you're trying to play through to your TV through the RF out on your combo unit, it's probably the copy protection that's stopping the playback. Try through the composite/audio jacks.

1}DVDR 3480 playback on many Dvds widescreen insteadof 4.3 as set. 2) my Vcr. has 3pin phono. Dvdr scart to Phono .Xt2 says nosignal. Phono tophono (cam socket) no signal .cannot copt tape to DVD. 3)B W...

1) The 4:3 / 16:9 option only optimises playback for that particular type of TV. The 4:3 setting also allows you to set the output between:

  • 4:3 PS - expands the picture vertically and horizontally which gets rid of the black bars, but you also lose the left and right edges of the picture.
  • 4:3 LB - Letterbox format, displays the full picture from the disc, with black bars top and bottom.
The PS option loses the bars on 16:9 widescreen DVDs, but may still leave bars on true cinema widescreen DVDs, which are 21.7:9
This is normal.
  • 16:9 - Optimises the picture for a widescreen TV. Again True cinema widescreen DVDs will still have black bars.
2) All of the external inputs will show "No signal" until there is actually a signal playing into them.
EG to copy VHS to DVD, you will need to select the relevant scart or phono input, and press play before the recorder will register a signal and allow recording.
Some bought VHS videos have copy protection, and may cause problems when copying to DVD.

3) Greenish playback maybe caused by colour setting on TV being too high. Also check Hue or Tint settings on the TV, if it has them.

4) For some reason, in their infinite wisdom, Philips omitted the Video Plus facility from this model.

Copy Protection Signal

"Copy Protected Signal." Means that the data you are trying to Ahem... "Copy" probably has copy protection inbuilt into the disk & data. This is done to stop copying of pirate DVD's etc. Part of the DRM put out by the TV/Music/Film industry. There are programs that can strip protection and enable one to copy said DVD's.. AnyDVD is one that springs to mind, as does Dameon Tools, and many others simply Google for them.
