Have power to everything but i get a clicking sound and it wont start

  • scott mclean Aug 09, 2008

Car started and drove fine, parked overnite, now only clicks...battery seems OK...headlights appear bright. Have attached a battery charger with a 200 amp starting feature, still only clicking, no cranking...anything else to check besides suspecting a bad starter/starter solenoid? Is the solenoid piggybacked on this starter? Is there a separate relay somewhere?

Check for a weak battery by load testing it,or have it load tested.A load tester is a specific tool for checking battery strength.Another not so accurate method is to turn on the headlights. If the headlights are really dim, then the battery is almost discharged. If the healdights are strong, then the battery is probably pretty strong. If the battery checks out, likely a bad starter,or starter solenoid.Good luck.

2005 sts wont start or turn motor got new battery and try to start and kills the whole power

It sound like you have a bad ground, what will happen if this is the case is you put you key in the ignition and turn to run "not starting the engine" and everything is on and bright, when you try to turn the engine over it will click once "just when the key hits the start position" and everything will shut off lights and all. if you take the key out and do it again it will produce the same results.

2004 Ford Explore won't turn over

whilst you are trying to jump start it check if you jump leads are good and powerful enough to sent the power to your battery, check if your battery terminals are clean enough to accept the power given,or is your battery not completely dead and even you are boosting has not the power to increase the needing one to start and is just for lights only?

My car wont start but everything else turns on don't know what to do charged the battery and it worked, jumped the car before, and it worked now none of those work at all, but everything works just...

its your starter and it went bad on you because there is a main cable that comes from the Negative battery terminal that goes to the cylinoed of the starter and pushes the starter into the engine block that starts the engine but to find out this that you have to get the hood up and have someone outside to hear if there is any clicking sound by the starter which shows it is engaging to start car. Check first the starter to see if it makes a clicking sound.

My 1980 ford bronco wont start. replaced solenoid and starter and it dose the same thing. wont crank wen i disconnect and reconnect battery and i try to start it all it dose is it clicks and everything...

it sounds like the battery has a problem with it and needs replacing,as you try to start the truck it pulls all the voltage out of the battery(which is very little in the battery)causing the clicking sound you hear, make sure the battery cable connections are tight and clean, both the terminals and cable ends.it takes very little voltage to power up a radio or lights and they probably stop working shortly after they are turned on.

My 93 acura legend wont start. Ticking sound??

That sounds like a dead battery. The ticking sound is the relay (a type of switch) which enables power to the starter motor when you turn the key. If the battery is weak, the relay will click, but there is not enough power to turn the starter motor.

1995 nissan pu wont start... everything turns on

check for power to the starter at the starter's connectors while you have someone turn the key. If there is power, change the starter. If not check your ignition switch, (manual trans)clutch pedal switch, and starter fuses/relays. Hopefully this helps
