Is this really a standard television or is it an LCD flat panel television? It sounds like this television's main board is going to need to be replaced. Hopefully the power supply won't need to be replaced as well. If the television is out of warranty and the main board needs to be replaced (a repair of $500 or more) you can usually get Sharp to cover the part if you pay the labor (or vice versa). You normally have to go to the service provider first and call in to Sharp with the estimate. You can try an INIT. It would be helpful to know the model number of this television.
An INIT reboots the television and may correct this problem. The method differs from model number to model number so call in to be walked though it. If you have an aquos television you call 877-332-7867 and if you don't have an aquos television call 800-besharp. However if you do in fact have a standard television and not an LCD this does not apply.
