Whenever I touch the screen with the stylus of my Sony CLIE peg-415, it responds in the same area every time. There is only one small horizontal bar that will accept a touch from the stylus, and when i try to calibrate, it just repeats the calibration process over and over and i have to reset the machine to exit the setup.

You can set your pen drag function to adjust the brightness.
Click the drop down menu on the top right of your screen, then click "system", then "prefs", then click the button at the bottom of the screen that says "pen". Next, click the drop down menu beside the little icon that looks like your clie. Click that and select "brightness". Now, when you drag your stylus from the bottom to the top of the screen, a little slider bar will appear to adjust the brightness.

Hard Reset CLIE Sony Series

1. Connect the CLIE handheld using the AC adapter and take out the stylus pin by twisting the upper part of the stylus.
2. Push down and hold the power button of the unit and use the stylus to slowly press and release the reset button on the back.
3. When the Palm screen will appear release the power button.
4. At the “Erase all data?” prompt, push the upper part of the scroll button on the front of the device to confirm OK. The Sony pda is now reset and you have only to follow the SetUp steps as prompted.

All you have to do is:
Look in the very bottom, right hand corner of the touchpad. You will see a little cog, click that and set it to whatever you want!

There are very limited original resources to get parts for obselete products. However you can check ebay.com time to time as frequently many sellers selling Sony Clie Parts.

Check for protective film/screen debris build-up around edges.

Check for loose cabling plugs into the back of the Screen
Unscrew the four little fascia screws & lift panel out.

I had same problem after unable to enter password.
Did Hard reset, encountered the stylus calibration cycling error.
One of my screen cables had come adrift slightly at one corner.

Try re-installing the drivers on your computer.
