Toshiba Satellite P10-S429 cannot acquire an IP address. Here's the deal: I'm running Windows XP SP3 on the Toshiba with a Linksys WUSB54GC v.3 wireless adapter. The laptop does not have a wireless NIC so I purchased the usb adapter and I have isolated the problem to the Toshiba laptop. I have a Verizon Fios wireless router/modem to which I have checked all the settings: WPA2, channel 6, with DHCP. My hardwired desktop connects with no problem and I also have a Dell Inspiron 1501 with Vista Home as well as an iPhone that have no trouble connecting wirelessly. To isolate the problem, I even turned off the wireless NIC on my Dell Vista laptop and installed the WUSB54GC adapter and it connected right away. So I now know that the problem is not my router and its not my wireless adapter and I'm currently at a stand still. Any suggestions out there?

SOURCE: Toshiba laptop running Vista loses connectivity

The problem is not Vista, the problem is the Netgear. I have seen this happen time and time again with both Netgear (primarily) and D-Link (often). That's why I *only* recommend Linksys.

Worst case - go buy one from Walmart (yes, they have 'em). Hook it up and see the difference. If, somehow, the problem persists, take it back, and you've lost nothing. But I'd bet (as they say down here in the South "dollars to doughnuts") that's your problem :)

Hope this helps - remember to rate :)

SOURCE: Problem connecting to router

Log into the Belkin router and make sure that the DHCP services are running. If it is, and you still are not getting addresses, perform a factory reset of the router. There is a link in the web management console to do this.

SOURCE: My Toshiba Satellite P10-S429 harddrive is not

Hi

Thank you for your query

Unfortunatley that noise you are hearing is the hard drive on its way out, the arm that normally reads the metal type discs in the inside is now knocking against them and thus the noise

If you still wish to reseat, if you turn the laptop over on the bottom there will be a symbol like cylinder barrel, this is where the hard drive is.

to remove it ensure there is no power going ot th elaptop and the battery has been removed, undo 2 or 4 screws (depending on the model) and remove the plastic panel, then simply take the hard drive out give the connectors both end a good clean and seat back. Put the cover back on and screws back in

I still believe the hard drive is faulty and you can either purchase another one and replcae yourself as mentioned above or alternativley book it into a reputable PC shop

You will also need to reinstall windows if the hard drive is replaced

If this has been useful please leave positive feedback/vote/testimonial as this will help me greatly - Thank you again

Toshiba satellite Notebook P10-S429,I need a new mother board or a substitute for this computer.

A replacement motherboard thru Ebay would run about $150.00. Its located here.
It's not my auction but to replace it would be better because to buy a whole new laptop would run alot more then the $150.

Power is one and nothing happening? You can check memory to see if it's seated but other than that it's time to find a reputable shop, or replace the machine.

check the IP address on your computer. There might be a static IP address on the computer. You said that your other computer is online wireless. Open the router set up page and check the wireless settigns of the router.

Cannot aquire ip address from wireless router

Hi, If your newer usb wireless adaptor does not have the same settings as your router this is the problem you have. First make sure you have installed the cd software that came with the usb adaptor without it plugged in. After that is complete make sure the wireless adaptor is seen by the computer it is attached to. Then you need to open the settings of the usb adaptor and set it up same as your router's settings. This includes the WEP security password if you use it. Good Luck.
