The best advice is to have it fixed properly. Once these are serviced correctly, they tend to perform like they should. The place that can fix that one is www.camerasandparts.com They do the service for the camera with the repair which is the key to it working the way it should. It's only $79 with them for that service package and it covers parts labor and shipping back. Their the best deal if you need to have a Canon serviced. Their work is as good as it gets for these cameras.

Hi there please follow the steps and let me know the result.

2. Look carefully between the lens and the camera body for any sand, dirt or any damaged etc.
3. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck
4. Try removing batteries and memory card, wait 5 minutes and refit the battery only.
5. Now turn on camera( with out card ) and see ,if working then fix the memory card & again turn on the camera. If working then fine . Otherwise format the memory card and fix back in camera again & try. Make sure before format the memory card take a back up all photos in your computer then format. I have a Canon PowerShot 850IS that is about 3 years old. It has been a great camera...up to this point. Just recently I went to take some photos and the bottom half of the images are blurry. Seems odd...

Could be that the lens cover doesn't open fully or that perhaps there is a smudge on the bottom part of the lens. Maybe a water drop. IF the front optics are dirty, use an optical-quality lens cleaning solution and cloth (if you have glasses, the lens cloth that came with your glasses). Apply a very small amount of cleaner to the cloth and gently clean the lens.

If the lens cover doesn't open, could be a grain of sand. The only thing to do is to gently move the lens cover in and out & hope the sand works its way out.

Flash not functionning after lens exchange

Did you replace the lens yourself? If so, no firmware update is going to solve your problem. Besides, there are no firmware updates for your camera.

Lens won't close.

I just found the culprit causing my camera to do the same. Under the battery door there is a post that hits a switch. That switch needs to be activated when the door is closed in order for it to work. Safety feature to allow someone not to put in a SD card while camera is on.

Canon SD 870IS - lens error

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Lens error

Have it serviced and they perform like new again! Try this place: www.camerasandparts.com They just service the Canons exclusively and they not only very affordable but they do excellent work. It's $79 through them with parts labor and service for the camera included. Having it serviced at the time of the repair is the key, this place includes that automatically with their service packages. If you need help with one of these, they're the place for the Canons!
