If you are connected to the internet using proxy account, you have to add your server name, port number, id, password etc.. But if you just directly connected to the Isp using a username and password, just select "connect directly to the internet" otherwise you'll have trouble signing in to your account.
Good luck.

Right click on your internet connection logo (2 blue monitor screens) in the System Tray and select "Diagnose and Repair" No Problem? proceed. Internet Explorer is used to sign into Yahoo Messenger. If you have another browser set as default IE will still sit as a link between your browser and Yahoo Messenger. For this reason most troubleshooting is concentrated on Internet Explorer.
Try each of these in turn, and try to sign in after each of them - if successful (or not) please feed back information to help others.
1) I would recommend installing the latest version of IE and update any support software (Flashplayer, Java, Shockwaveplayer) for IE by using an update checker http://www.filehippo.com/updatechecker/ 2) Start with a clean browser Download 'ccleaner' and run it through a couple of times, using the factory settings and the 'Run Cleaner' control until 0 bytes are seen to be cleaned following a scan Run the 'Registry' from the left hand toolbar but 'Save' any changes after opting to 'repair' errors. http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ 3) On the sign in page click 'Messenger' > Connection Preference Toggle between 'Connect direct to the internet' and 'Proxy setting' make sure the information is correct in the lower 2 boxes. I am currently in the Asia Pacific region and I have to toggle between these settings a few times a week to maintain my connection 4) Check these settings in IE (even if you have another browser set as default) a) Tools > Internet options > Connections > Lan settings > check 'Automatically detect settings - uncheck other options. b) Tools > work offline - make sure this is NOT checked and has a red X through it 5) Disable your firewall and do a trial sign in 6) Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings-uncheck Proxy server and check automatically detect setting 7) Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > dial-up and virtual private Network setting > select your default connection > setting > check automatically detect setting 8)If you are unable to sign into this secure page (https) https://login.yahoo.com/config/login?.src=fptx._intl=uk copy the yahoo https address above and paste it in here:- IE > tools > internet options > LAN settings - check automatically detect settings > Advanced - paste in 'Secure' window > OK 9) Run ccleaner again
Hi,
1. go to messenger menu 2. select connection preference/ preference 3. the tab will automatic select connection preference, if it doesn’t, select it manual. 4. change your internet conection type, for my problem i choose broadband(DSL/Cable). 5. Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections (tab) > Lan Settings (button) then uncheck the Proxy server checkbox and check automatically detect setting 6. Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections (tab) > dial-up and virtual private Network setting > select your default connection > setting > check automatically detect setting
Please rate my response!!
Thanks,

1) Yahoo are concentrating their efforts to resolving sign-in issues
with Messenger 10. You may have to upgrade to this version if you
cannot resolve your problems and make use of the troubleshooting
software - even if you want to retro install an older version later. 2)
users who opt for a default browser other than IE may be neglecting to
keep IE up to date unaware that IE plays a crucial part in the running
of Yahoo Messenger. I use Firefox as my default but note the amount of
cleaning in IE when I run ccleaner. 3) Start your trouble shooting with a clean browser Download
'ccleaner' and run it through a couple of times, using the factory
settings and the 'Run Cleaner' control until 0 bytes are seen to be
cleaned following a scan Run the 'Registry' from the left hand toolbar but 'Save' any changes after opting to 'repair' errors. http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ 4) It will be worth making IE your default browser while you troubleshoot 5) Download the latest IE from Microsoft http://www.filehippo.com/download_internet_explorer/ 6) Ensure 'work offline' is unchecked :- > Tools - uncheck Work Offline. 7) Update your support software for IE using the links on this page http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger10/notices/mstabuguqscripterror.html After
updating check you do not have old versions of Flashplayer,
Shockwaveplayer and Java running alongside the latest - this can cause
conflicts Start / control panel / programs delete any old versions 8) If your log-in fails, interrogate the troubleshooting log for 'failed items' Two Yahoo servers are used for initial log-ins The log-in server checks your username and password are correct If this has 'failed' check your IE can access a secure website by signing in here https://login.yahoo.com/ No
luck? check IE settings >Tools > Internet options > Connection
tab > LAN > 'Use a proxy server for your LAN' > Advanced -
Under 'Proxy address to use' check the info in 'Secure' and 'Port' are
correct > OK for each window. The connection server helps find
the right location to synchronise with other servers- if this shows
'failed' change your YM settings to connect via a proxy. This can be
done from the menu on the sign in page > Messenger > Preferences
> Connection -adjust settings > Apply > OK If all else fails - try dis-abling your firewall and do a test sign in.
