Do you get a screen if you boot from the CD/DVD drive using the Windows installation CD/DVD disc. If not, you probably dis-lodged
a cable or plug when installing the drive.

I am unable to access the internet from sleep mode Can only get on internet from shut down mode

Three possible causes of sleep mode. first, an extensive screensaver with password lock prevents display. A condition that is observable as a blankscreen also known as sleep mode. Second, a computer power saver settings that shutsdown during idleness. Third, An improper shut down of the computer would have caused a sleep mode to save the system data files.

E521 does not always completely start up into windows. It takes several tries of hitting the on switch. Is it the power supply?

Dunno,if it hits the splash screen & quits or goes to black, then more than likely the hard drive is going bad. Doubt it's the power supply.

Black screen

If the screen is breaking up into multiple screens, the video resolution isn't set correctly. Change the video properties back to the native resolution.

Right-click on an empty area of your desktop screen. Click on Properties at the bottom. Now click on the Settings tab.
The Screen Resolution slider should be all the way to the right, close to -> More.
The Colors should be set to the highest setting.

When you close the lid, you may have your laptop set to Sleep Mode, check that. You may also have your screen saver set to Blank, and no screen saver has been chosen.

(1.Screen Saver: Right-click on empty area of desktop>Properties>Screen Saver.

2.Sleep Mode: Start>Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>Power Options>Power Buttons>When I press the sleep button on my computer>Then choose what you want it to do)

If none of this helps, I suggest you have a problem that HP needs to repair. Since you bought this dv9700t last July, would I be correct in assuming it's still under warranty?

Dimension E521 stuck in power saver mode

OK, I am sorry to say that it seems to be more than I thought. Here is a link to a forum where other people are having the same problem. I expected it to be a setting but this sounds like I'm wrong. I sure wish I could be more helpful. Here's the link though. Good luck, I know how frustrating it is.
