Operating System needs a hard disk drive, you can run the software or installer but you can not install the operating system. It's no for me!

Unfortunately no. You need a hard drive. But if your laptop supports it, you may be able to use a USB Pen/Flash drive to act as your hard drive and load an OS onto it if it's large enough (16Gigs or larger).

If you turn on the laptop and at the beginning Post screen, press the key that will take you into Setup/BIOS. Look through the pages to find references to booting from a USB drive and set that (If your laptop has that ability) as your second boot device with the CD/DVD Rom drive as the first boot device.

Have the USB pen drive inserted and then start the windows OS setup with the CD/DVD. You would need that drive plugged in each time you use the laptop and cannot remove it for any reason once it's loaded into windows. You can remove it once it is shut down though. This is a long shot and not a recommended solution.

Hope this helps.

If it's Windows, no not without a drive...maybe if you have a large jump drive, but you need something for windows to install on.

Hello sir My Sony VAIO laptop he is not open and show me SMS Operating system not found I need your help

1. Damaged hard drive is a very common cause for that problem. Once your OS is not 'readable' some parts of the drive might be damaged and is best to change hard drive and reinstall OS and applications.

2. A very corrupted OS (you deleted critical parts of the OS or have a virus) might fail to load and then you could perform a restoration if you have the OS on a drive or a reinstallation.

Erased hard drive, how can install os without the disk?

You would require an installation media to re-install OS, So you can't do it without CD or USB thumb drive with installation file. You can call dell @ 8006249896 and ask them for OS disk, If you wouldn't have received with the computer, they will be sending it to you free of cost and it will only take 2 to 3 business days for you to receive those than you can re-install OS.

Sony vaio vgn series laptop - when xp os loading blue screen appears and display the msg hard disk drive not detected.

system not found in my experience generally leads to a damaged or loose hard drive, try to open the cover at the bottom side of the machine, and reseat the hard drive, if it still says system not found, get a 2.5 inch drive case, put your laptop drive in the case and connect it to another machine, if you can access the drive great! save all your files and once complete return the drive to your machine and try to reinstall the OS from a dvd then reinstall your files.. and if still having the same problem replace hard drive thanks.

How can i install new os on my blank hard drive of my laptop? the lcd of my laptop is unresponsive,,,

Installing the OS without the display will be a difficult process. The best option is to remove the Hard Drive and connect it to other Computer and then reinstall the OS. Later, you can connect the Hard Drive to your Computer.

I have a toshiba psaa8u-1l502k and i need to reboot the OS, i have no disc, looking for a function shortcut key or something.. thanks

Hi,
I don't know if your machine supports HDD recovery from a hidden partition but this how you perform it without recovery CD's.

Make sure the computer is turned off.

Hold down the 0 (zero) key while powering up the laptop. When the computer powers up the Toshiba Recovery Wizard should appear.

Just follow the on-screen instructions to factory or out of the box restore.

Regards.

Aspire 9500 doesn't start - cursor and drive indicator blinks

Generally the bios setting will be set to check the primary Hard disk for the Operating system and then move to the CD/DVD drive . It looks like your system is not finding the hard disk. Thats why its moving on the CD drive and trying to read it.

Possible issues :

1) Hard Drive crash
Solution : Nothing much. You need to replace the hard drive and reinstall the OS.
2) Hard Drive connection issue.
Solution : Open the chasi and try to figure out if the hard disc is properly connected.
3) Corrupted OS or boot file
Solution : Try to repair the OS use the OS cd and run the repair option.
4) Bios setting to treat CD drive as the primary media.
Solution : Use the F10 option in the Bios to change the primary Media.

Rate the Solution accordingly...

1. purchase a 2.5" usb enclosure.
2. remove your hard drive and install in the enclosure.
3. plug the enclosure into a working computer and copy or move your important files onto working computer.
4a. reinstall the laptop hard drive and try a repair installation by booting from the XP cd. (if you are running xp)
4b. reinstall the laptop hard drive and try booting to Last Known Good Configuration. Press either the F5 or F8 key while rebooting to get to the menu.
4c. purchase a new hard drive and reinstall the OS using the reinstallation cd's

How do in reinstall the os without a disk?????????

You can't reinstall the system without a disc, and a majority of the time this error indicates hard drive failure.

Computer stuck?

I would try removing the hard drive with the laptop turned off without the power adapter connected. Then reinstall the hard drive and reconnect the power adapter. Check in the BIOS to see if the hard drive is reconogized. If all this fails I recommend replacing the hard drive and reloading the operating system
