1. check bios for first boot option to hard drive.
2. If xp, run repair from cd (enable cd boot in bios).

Operating System not found

Im assuming you have an installation or a recovery disk

Insert the Windows install disk for your version of Windows and reboot the PC.

With the computer unable to find the operating system on the hard drive, it may skip automatically to the next possible boot device, which should be the CD or DVD-ROM drive.

Some systems may be configured to boot to that source first, and others may not be configured to roll over to the next device at all.

When in doubt, there should be an option to select boot device when the computer is first powered on (the F12 key on most Dell computers) and you can boot straight to the optical drive from there.

Press any key when prompted to boot to the install disk, then follow the on-screen instructions.

You'll want to try to perform a repair on the existing Windows install, which you will get to by first selecting a new install of Windows.

Select to install a new operating system, and the install package will look to see if Windows is already installed.

If it finds the existing install, the installer should give you a chance to perform a repair of what's currently on the hard drive, replacing corrupted files with clean ones from the install disk.

If the Windows installer does not detect an existing Windows install on the hard drive, then the hard drive itself may be at fault.

Replace the hard drive and repeat the first few steps to install Windows from scratch.

The original hard drive is likely corrupted or otherwise broken, and may not be recoverable at all, outside of an expensive, third-party data retrieval service.

hope this helps

I have a asus Eee pc notebook, when i turn it on the message REBOOT AND SELECT PROPER BOOT DEVICE appears how do i do that?

check if there is any fashdrive or memory card plugged in. if it shows that message it might mean your pc cant detect a bootable harddrive. was it working before? was it dropped or bumped maybe the harddrive got loose. at the bootup screen do you see your harddrive? if your pc can still detect your harddrive try installing a fresh copy or your operating system. hope this helps.

My sony notebook PCG V 505 AX stopped booting with message "operating system not found". I took the help of the 3 system recovery CDs which came along the machine. While the first CD runs...

The problem seems to be in your cds. In this case, especially if the product is still in warranty, you can ask from Sony website if they will send you a new set of cds.

My Sony Vaio PCG 3C2L will not turn on. It looks

it sounds like a problem with your harddrive. if you have an oem copy of your OS then you could do a chkdsk /r from this. If not then the harddrive will have to be removed and the chkdsk /r done from a data reader from another computer. Hope this helps, leave feedback

While trying to bootup my harddrive makes this clicking noise, and shows a message operating system not found, how do I correct this problem

Hi Mark,
The above message seems to hard drive issue. I recommend you to check with GWSCAN link. GWSCAN will isolate the issue with hard drive or not. http://support.gateway.com/s/HARDDRV/Misc/GWSCAN512/GWSCAN512su46.shtml
I believe above link will help to confirm your issue.

Operating system not found

I would say either a bad harddrive or bad boot sector. If you are looking for a DIY solution, youll want to test the harddrive by running disk wizard or something similar or pulling the harddrive and putting it in a harddrive enclosure (available from NewEgg.com). The enclosure will hookup to another computer through usb or firewire and will allow you to backup your files if the harddrive is still good. If the harddrive isnt good, youll get errors while copying the files or it wont allow you to access the harddrive at all. Else, take it to a computer repairman to have them pull the harddrive and run tests on it.
