Hello; There are many types of DVD players. Few can play videos in full HD mode. The only thing you can try is to change to aspect ratio or display mode on your TV, using the Philips remote. You may not be able to view in any other way. These will all be in the menu on the Philips TV remote control. As painful as it may be, you must fully read the Philips owner's manual. You can also try calling their technical support, if the even have it. I hope this helps! John

A black line on the top and bottom

In your Recording Menu, check that the Disp. Overlay is turned Off. The lines are showing the portion of your image that will be cropped if you print a 4 x 6 photo (3:2 Guide).

Green line on TV with DVD playing

The aspect ratio is fine, I just fixed mine you have to use the TV remote, and press the left or right directional button depending on where the green line. Philips TV offsets the picture when using HDMI, but its easily fixable using this remedy. Time to take the tape off haha!

Widescreen

Unfortunately, a cinema screen is even wider than a widescreen TV. Because of this (in order to keep the original aspect ratio), even with a widescreen TV you still end up with the black bars top and bottom.

Check the aspect ratio of the DVD (Should be printed on the back of the case somewhere).

Unless it says 1.85:1 or 16:9 Anamorphic, you will get the black bars. (Many films on DVD are 2.35:1 or even wider!)

Have you got any different picture modes on your TV. I've got a Toshiba and it has something called 'cinema mode' which does eliminate the bars. Unfortunately it does it by zooming in on the picture slightly, so you loose a bit off the side of the picture and the image does get a little grainier.

Hope this helps.

Most if not all DVD's are 16 by 9 even in 4.3 mode you are going to have those bars on this TV. Some television have a zoom feature to get rid of that but not this one.

Lines on top and bottom on projection TV

What sort of lines? - do you mean like it is in widescreen mode with a black band top and bottom? Do you mean you have clear straight lines, or streaks or scratch-like marks? Is it the same for all input sources (cable, DVD/VCR, satellite, PC, camcorder etc.? Could you post back a photo of the lines? Waiting your info:)
